We prefer architectural shingles over three-tab shingles because they offer better security against wind damage and other weather events like hail, which is common in Central Texas.

In this video, we explain what is the difference between Class 3 and Class 4 shingles, and also why we prefer Malarkey brand for all of our architectural shingles.

Are Class 4 shingles worth it? What are the benefits of Class 4 shingles vs Class 4 shingles?

For Class 3 impact testing, a 1.75-inch steel ball is dropped onto the shingle from 15 feet; the underlying mat of the shingle must remain undamaged.

For Class 4 impact testing, a 2-inch steel ball is dropped from 20 feet, and the underlying mat must also remain undamaged.

Also, in Texas, the Department of Insurance provides a form that roofers can complete for homeowners who have Class 4 shingles installed.

Submitting this to an insurance company can result in a discount on monthly insurance premiums.
