🟢 This evening, Lagan Valley Island and Union Bridge will be illuminated green to mark St John’s Day.
Locally, St John Ambulance Northern Ireland plays a vital role in our communities providing lifesaving first aid skills, supporting events across Lisburn & Castlereagh and nurturing the next generation of leaders.
Within the Lisburn units, first aid is taught to individuals from the age of 5 and up. Youth members, known as Badgers and Cadets, not only learn vital first aid skills but also develop soft skills such as teamwork and leadership through participation in the Grand Prior Award.
Adult volunteers provide essential support at community events, including our Wallace Park Twilight Night, as they progress through advanced first aid pathways and training.
Councillor Brian Higginson, Corporate Services Committee Chairman, shared his support saying, "Lighting up our civic buildings in green this evening is a mark of respect and appreciation for the volunteers of St John Ambulance.
Their dedication to teaching lifesaving skills, supporting our community, and developing future leaders is truly commendable. On St John’s Day, we say thank you for every bandage, every training session, and every moment of calm in crisis that they provide."

1. "Hello can you help me?" said a voice in front of me. I was lost in the depths of my phone and look up. She was sat in her wheelchair, waiting at the revolving doors of the hospital.
