Oregon waterway permit initiative to repeal the new fees on kayaks, paddleboards, and all non-motorized craft is dead in the water — they only got ~32k signatures out of 117k needed for the ballot.

This whole mess started with HB 2982 that Rep. Ed Diehl voted YES on, expanding the permit to hit regular folks floating the river.

Now even Diehl admits it was a mistake and wants to roll it back.

Solid grassroots momentum.

At the top of the ticket, Christine Drazan is carrying the ball for Governor.

She's brought in nearly $3.9 million since January and still has $711k cash on hand heading into the fall.

DeSpain's in a tough congressional race and Drazan is fighting the biggest one in the state.

Here’s the 2025-27 recommended budget breakdown (total ≈ $137 billion):

-Human Services: 45.6% ($62.2B) — the dominant slice (Medicaid, behavioral health, housing/homelessness, etc.)

-Education: 17.1% ($23.3B)

-Administration: 13.0% ($17.8B)

-Economic & Community Development: 8.4% ($11.4B)

-Public Safety: 5.5% ($7.5B)

-Transportation: 5.4% ($7.3B)

-Natural Resources: 2.8% ($3.8B)

-Smaller slices: Consumer & Business Services (0.9%), Judicial (0.8%), Legislative (0.2%)

Within those priorities you’ve also directed specific taxpayer dollars to LGBTQ-focused work — including $1.25 million in the last biennium for LGBTQIA2S+ data collection and research (signed by you in HB 5701) plus the earlier $2.1 million for the LGBTQ2SIA+ Student Success Plan.

Christian-affiliated nonprofits?

Homelessness help, refugee support, food aid, emergency relief, and the like.

Christian/faith-based groups get state money when they deliver services the state wants to fund (housing, food, refugees, etc.).

LGBTQ funding? Explicitly identity-targeted

That’s your right as an elected official.

Priorities are political.

But the second the other side’s political appointees might do the exact same thing with federal dollars, it’s suddenly “un-American” and puts essential services at risk?

Spare us.

You don’t hate politics in funding.

Rich- you’ve referred to the “tax breaks” before. So I’ll explain it again:

Kotek is against the tax cuts you call “Epstein tax breaks.”

She signed SB 1507, which blocked Oregon from adopting key parts of them — including FULL expensing for business equipment and other provisions aimed at investment.

She’s spent months calling the federal bill tax breaks for the ultra-rich and “really, really wealthy people.”

If those tax cuts are the root of Oregon’s problems, why is the state still a mess under the governor who actively fought them and chose higher state taxes instead? Why was it also a mess BEFORE Trump took his second term?

Maybe the spending, the regulations, the tax theft, and the priorities in Salem have something to do with it. Your constant defense of Kotek (and inability to remove your blunders) shows that you’ll eat whatever they feed you.

Not one person on planet earth is going to be able to get away with blaming Trump for Oregons problems. You keep pointing to Oregons problems being the federal government? So you’re saying it’s true that Biden ran the country into the ground and Oregon was complicit?

Wyden rolling into Eastern Oregon talking about what folks want for a “better future” on forestry and healthcare after his town halls?

After nearly 30 years in the Senate, the future he’s actually delivered is mills like Malheur Forest Products shutting down — 207 jobs gone, $58 million economic gut punch to the area, and Grant-Union schools losing $725k a year in revenue.

Forests turned into tinderboxes overloaded with fuel because real active management got buried under endless lawsuits and restrictions.

Rural communities stuck scraping by on federal handouts instead of solid timber jobs.

Now he’s back on the town hall circuit, patting himself on the back for “supporting” applications to maybe reopen the very mills his policies helped kill, while pushing the same tired “one-two punch” and Medicare-style fixes.

Eastern Oregon has lived this movie too many times.

We don’t need more DC photo ops and bandaids from the guy who’s been part of the problem since the ’90s.

We need our forests managed for actual jobs AND fire safety, rural economies that work for working families instead of begging for scraps, and leaders who finally stop selling the same failed status quo.
