Arsène Wenger and Abou Diaby reunited on @ligue1plus last night. Wenger was asked what he saw in Diaby when he signed him: ‘More like what didn’t I see! He had size, could accelerate, dribble, and he had a football brain. 

‘I’m always happy to see Abou because we went through many difficult times together. He was often injured – and extremely courageous in coming back. He was supported unanimously at the club because of his attitude and talent. 

‘He had an exceptional talent. But to succeed at the top level, you also need to be present all the time. When you are in and out, it’s difficult.

‘It all happened because of one serious injury in the last minute of the season at Sunderland. The problems stemmed from that. Abou didn’t have a physical weakness, he had one serious injury. Today people criticise VAR, but VAR protects a lot of players.’

Our failure in closing down the shots for their two goals does not happen with MLS in there.

Too many of our players just failed to do the basics.

A very high level half of football. Brighton are fantastic. I honestly don’t think there was much in it, but they pulled out 2 incredible finishes and we didn’t quite find the openings. I think there will be a massive overreaction about how we played due to the scoreline 🤷‍♂️

I have never experienced anything like this in terms of excuses made for a player. I was so taken aback by the blowback from the piece I wrote last week. whatever was good about gyokeres started with his work rate. That drive, determination and desperation to get a goal helped him cover for other shortcomings. Without that, there’s not much left.

@MattXtraHQ No, he is not. Arsenal built this defence before he arrived. Also, assistant coaches carry out the instructions of the boss. If they have any ideas, it must be sanctioned by the boss before it is implemented. Heinze, cannot be the boss, he does what the boss instructs or agrees.
