Factual thoughts….@ScottPelley and @mhenryschuster were embedded with my Marine infantry unit in 2009—it was incredibly violent in Helmand. They told our story well. Years later, my unit suffered multiple suicides, they came back to cover that too. I wrote him when I was hired.
🚨 The House just voted 218-204 to move forward on the discharge petition to provide military aid to Ukraine and impose tough sanctions on Russia. The House will vote on final passage tomorrow. This is our Churchill moment and we must pass the test.
From a cynical perspective, Schumer may be fine with either outcome: Platner wins and he probably becomes majority leader, or Platner loses and his prominent supporters in the Progressive wing are deeply discredited in the factional infighting. Or Turek wins and he gets both.
WSJ reports from inside the senators meeting with Platner. Some interesting details where his biggest backers pressed him if any additional allegations were coming.
Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders asked Platner if any additional allegations would emerge against the embattled Democratic candidate, according to people familiar with the discussion. Platner said there weren’t any.
Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, who also attended the meeting, followed up and said there is a big difference between marital issues and allegations of sexual assault, the people said. Platner agreed and denied any credible allegations of assault were forthcoming.

Germany has failed to win a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council.
Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul (CDU) secured 104 votes in the General Assembly, falling 23 short of the required two-thirds majority. It is the first time Germany has missed out on a rotating seat.
@nukebayern Yep, but it’s much better to be happily divorced than unhappily married. As with James and his wife, they may actually get along much better now that they don’t have to live together anymore. They’re both young, healthy, and rich, so I’m sure they’ll be fine.
@nukebayern They were clearly on the rocks for a long time. She didn’t even go to his farewell match. Who knows what happened. I think it’s likely they just grew apart as they aged. Sometimes there isn’t one dramatic reason.
@nukebayern If a guy is 21 and wants to go party and meet other women, that’s perfectly normal. It’s a reason why rushing into marriage at 19 or 20 is a mistake for many people.
