But behind every transaction, target and deadline is a human being, with a family, responsibilities and a life beyond the branch.

A 5-day week was agreed in March 2024, with bankers accepting longer working hours from Monday to Friday.

The demand is reasonable. The commitment is proven. The delay is difficult to justify.

Every 24x7 banking service has a banker behind it and a family waiting at home. We agreed to the 5-day week in March 2024 and accepted longer weekday hours. The regulator, the insurer and the Government all work 5 days.

A rested workforce serves the public better. With staff shortages and rising stress, 5-day banking is a service-quality issue, not a “perk.” UFBU has pursued this since 2015; IBA has recommended it to the Government (MoU 07-12-2023), and it’s included in the 12th Bipartite/9th Joint Note (08-03-2024), pending clearances.
Let’s finish what’s already agreed.

When the world is moving to a 4-day week, and banking is already 24x7 in the digital era, bankers asking for a 5-day week isn’t a luxury. It’s justice.

IBA has agreed. The understanding is signed.
Now the Government must honour its commitment – no more excuses, no more delays.

Rajnath Singh should advise Amit Shah to call for the Army to deal with Anti CAA violence. If Amitji agrees it will be a blow to our democratic tradition but bringing to an end this violence is as important for our democracy to survive. Anti CAA agitation is anti national.
