Charisma Carpenter Confirms She Won’t Appear in Buffy the Vampire Slayer Reboot
By Natalie Oganesyan – August 16, 2025
Charisma Carpenter has officially addressed fan speculation about her potential return as Cordelia Chase in Hulu’s upcoming Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot.
In a TikTok post, Carpenter said she is not involved with the new series:
“I am not in the reboot. I am not in the pilot. I don’t even know if the show has been picked up to go to series. I assume it will be.”
She also clarified that her new Buffy rewatch podcast, The Bitch Is Back, isn’t a coded hint at a Buffyverse return:
“It was not intended to sound coded in any kind of way… Not at all. I have not had a conversation with any of the powers that be to include Cordelia at this point.”
Context and Past Comments
Carpenter had previously expressed hope that Cordelia might be revisited, calling her character’s original exit from Angel “unjust.” Cordelia appeared in the first three seasons of Buffy and continued for four more in Angel before being killed off in season five.
As Buffy fans know, however, death in this universe isn’t always permanent — Sarah Michelle Gellar’s Buffy herself was resurrected twice. Gellar, who is also executive producing the new reboot, has said she hopes to balance bringing back legacy characters with making room for new ones.
The Reboot
The Hulu pilot will be directed by Oscar-winner Chloé Zhao from a script by Nora and Lilla Zuckerman (Poker Face). Sarah Michelle Gellar returns both on screen and behind the camera alongside new slayer Ryan Kiera Armstrong.
The cast also includes:
Faly Rakotohavana
Ava Jean
Sarah Bock
Daniel Di Tomasso
Jack Cutmore-Scott
Guest stars Merrin Dungey, Audrey Hsieh, Audrey Grace Marshall, Kingston Vernes
Chase Sui Wonders in a special one-off role
Advance word is that the pilot will honor the original while exploring new stories for a fresh generation of fans.
