BREAKING NEWS: Suspended Inspector General of Intelligence, Imtiaz Fazel, had his security clearance revoked for allegedly leaking classified information to a member of parliament and a prominent journalist.
Fazel’s marriage to a Moroccan woman who works at the Doha embassy in Pretoria was also raised as a red flag.
He was nominated for the position by two DA members of parliament and motivated by a senior member of ANC in parliament.
As IG, Fazel is believed to have made several questionable international trips to Jordan, in the Middle East, Iran, Brazil, New York and New Orleans, where he was reportedly accompanied by a former apartheid defence intelligence operative, whom he recruited to the IG’s office.
One suspended police general is alleged to have been a frequent visitor at the IG’s office and the leader of the National Coloured Congress, Fadel Adams, also visited Fazel in his office in November 2024 after opening a case against crime intelligence boss, Lieutenant General Dumisani Khumalo, at Orlando Police and in Cape Town.
Adams opened six similar cases against Khumalo at different police stations.
But in his affidavit challenging the withdrawal of his security clearance and subsequent suspension by President Cyril Ramaphosa, Fazel is telling a different story.

This week Commissioner Khumalo sounded like he had flu. 😢 His voice was hoarse and croaky. He spoke with difficulty. It got me thinking that since this Commission started, we've never had a single day where one of the Commissioners was booked off due to illness.

Even Commissioner Baloyi has had her flu days. But they all thug it out, sacrificing without rest or a pause, all in the name of commitment to fixing our Criminal Justice System. While others are busy faking illnesses hiding away from accountability.

We owe a huge debt of gratitude to these Commissioners as South Africans. Huge!
