Wrong-Way Driver Arrested After Multi-Vehicle Collision in Redmond
On Tuesday, May 12, at approximately 6:50 a.m., Redmond officers responded to reports of a wrong-way driver near Redmond Way and 170th Ave. NE. Multiple callers reported the vehicle was driving in the eastbound lanes against traffic before crashing near Whole Foods in the 17000 block of Redmond Way.
According to witnesses, the driver struck another vehicle, drove onto the sidewalk, hit a parked car, and eventually became stuck in a ditch near the East Lake Sammamish Trail. Callers also reported the driver appeared to be under the influence.
When officers arrived, they located the vehicle in the ditch and contacted the female driver walking nearby on the sidewalk. The female driver was taken into custody without incident.
We want to thank the vigilant community members who quickly called 9-1-1 and provided timely updates to dispatchers. Their quick actions and detailed information helped officers respond rapidly to a dangerous situation.
We are grateful this incident did not result in serious injuries. Impaired driving and wrong-way driving place everyone on the road at significant risk. If you suspect a driver may be impaired, call 9-1-1 immediately and provide as much information as possible, including location, direction of travel, and vehicle description.
Speeding and distracted driving continue to be major safety concerns on Redmond roads.

3 distracted driving citations for cell phone use
2 citations for driving without a license

Officers also issued:

Reckless Driver Arrested After Eluding Police Across Redmond; Drone Program Helps Track Vehicle
Officers attempted to stop a vehicle in the early morning hours of April 23 after noticing it had no license plates. The driver accelerated well above the posted speed limit and failed to stop, ignoring emergency lights and sirens.
The vehicle continued through Redmond, running red lights, making dangerous turns, and driving at high speeds. At one point, the driver returned toward an officer, flashing high beams in an apparent attempt to provoke a pursuit, and drove into oncoming traffic. Due to the reckless behavior and risk to the public, officers did not engage in a pursuit.
Multiple drones were deployed remotely from docking locations throughout the city by a single Drone as First Responder (DFR) pilot, allowing officers to maintain continuous visual contact with the vehicle as it drove recklessly across Redmond.
With assistance from aerial support, officers tracked the vehicle as it continued driving dangerously through the area, including SR-520 and downtown Redmond. Spike strips were successfully deployed, and the vehicle was later located at an apartment complex.
Officers conducted a high-risk stop, and the driver was taken into custody without incident. The individual was arrested for eluding a police vehicle and further investigated for DUI. The driver was under the legal drinking age, and an open alcoholic beverage was found inside the vehicle. The individual was also driving with a suspended license.
This type of reckless driving puts everyone at risk. Thank you to assisting units for their coordinated response.
A Redmond vehicle theft investigation quickly expanded into a residential burglary and multi-agency case spanning two counties before the suspect ultimately turned himself in.
Investigators say the suspect unlawfully entered a Redmond home while residents were asleep, stole vehicle keys and a bank card, then drove the stolen vehicle across multiple jurisdictions, where detectives connected him to additional crimes before he returned to Redmond and surrendered to officers.
โThis case highlights the value of quick reporting, technology-assisted investigations, and strong collaboration between law enforcement agencies,โ said Redmond Police Chief Darrell Lowe. โCriminals who target our communities should know that agencies will work together across jurisdictions to find them and pursue criminal charges.โ
