Today, we hosted stakeholders from the proposed host communities of Erekiti in Badagry and Agbowa-Ikosi in Epe Division as part of ongoing engagement on the planned development of Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs) in both locations.
For us, this goes beyond infrastructure. It is about changing the way Lagos thinks about and manages waste, moving from the traditional “collect and dispose” model towards a circular economy where materials are recovered, recycled and put back into productive use.
The proposed MRFs will help us recover more value from waste, reduce the pressure on our landfills, create jobs and opportunities for skills development, and ultimately support our vision for a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable Lagos.
But projects like these cannot succeed without the people they are designed to serve. That is why we are engaging our host communities from the outset- listening, addressing concerns and ensuring they understand the opportunities these facilities can bring.
Building a circular economy requires infrastructure, but just as importantly, it requires partnership. And that partnership begins with our communities.
