Been at ESPN a long time - this one was an all timer. Before social media, it was as viral as a story can be. I watched it on a tape in the news room. I couldn’t stop watching his teammates.
Thank you to the @Nationals for giving me an opportunity to chase a dream and make some unforgettable memories along the way.
Excited for a new beginning with the @Braves and the opportunity to chase another dream.
This is a homecoming opportunity for Willingham, who was born in Rome, grew up in Summerville and played at Georgia Tech. Just adds pitching depth to the organization
Here’s a story I think the current Notre Dame players need to hear:
“In his second season as the head coach of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Lou Holtz’s team experienced a humiliating loss against Texas A&M in the Cotton Bowl. Feeling totally demoralized, Holtz walked into the locker room to find that most of his players didn’t seem to be overly upset at this loss.
Except for one young man. Second-string Chris Zorich was sitting in front of his locker, weeping deep, gut-heaving sobs.
Holtz decided at that moment that the next year’s team would be composed of players who loved football enough to weep over the losses.
The very next season the lamenting player left his position of bench warmer to starter to team captain. That young man, who cared enough, to experience fully his anguish, helped the Fighting Irish win a National Championship.
Chris Zorich, hard-hitting, tough football player, won his spot on the starting team because he cared enough to cry.” (via EGND Irish Illustrated).
A thread to put you in a good mood

Wow! Tom Brady may have just delivered the greatest quote I’ve ever heard.
“To be successful at anything, the truth is you don’t have to be special. You just have to be what most people aren’t: consistent, determined and willing to work for it.”
