But this reminds me of early employee syndrome in a lot of SMBs.

You started a company. Took on massive risk. It’s starting to work.

You hire a few people. One person to help with the warehouse / packing. Another maybe does customer service.

It’s year 3 now. The company is a lot bigger.

You suddenly get a note from that first warehouse person. They feel entitled to equity, etc. They saw themselves as being early and now that the company is bigger, they want to renegotiate.

They don’t understand the risk you took. Or how many swings you had to take. They also don’t understand that you could have hired anyone to be a warehouse person.

Talk to any founder, they’ve experienced this employee.

people don’t always have an accurate sense of risk. If that person had equity and the business died (which they often do), it would be worthless.
