So did I(some were in Jr HS). In the 90’s, they had us reading Beowulf, The Canterbury Tails, and memorizing tons of Shakespeare in HS. I did my senior term paper as a deep dive into the Christian symbolism in Lord of the Flies. I am very saddened by the book lists my children had 5 years ago in HS.

My nephew wanted to learn carpentry. No one would hire him because it was so much cheaper to hire illegals. Willing, 22 year old mechanically inclined strapping young lad with a strong work ethic and stellar employment record since 16yo- can’t find a construction job. He is now training to be a diesel mechanic, but he would have made beautiful things with trim carpentry. I hope he teaches himself and has a hobby workshop one day.

@FreeBrocTickle @ItsLulu_7 And yet, talk to any gay person currently in Russia and you will find some pretty horrible stories/ attitudes regarding homosexuality. It is currently illegal to promote/ advocate LBG causes. Most organizations are categorized as extremist and illegal.

You (silent and early boomers) raised Gen X. Probably the most neglected generation to ever live. We learned to depend on ourselves because no one else was going to be there. We learned there is no such thing as community or selflessness. We learned to never ask for help because it was futile. Of course, this is a very broad generalization, but true amongst my peers. I love my parents, but between 2 parents working and holding it together, we were left to our own devises. And frankly, I prefer it that way (it feels more authentic to human nature). I want to be responsible for me and mine. I also knew some kids brought up in some less than ideal communes. It did not work out for them. A fraction (but still significant numbers and severity) made the entire movement look bad.

@WallStreetApes I can’t remember the last time I ate out besides a tiny Mexican restaurant that is local. I would much rather have my own cooking. Shockingly, so do my kids (who are in their early 20’s).

@jacksonhinkle Funny, when I was in Russia, I wanted to go to Lenin’s tomb (because being in Red Square was surreal). My guide was dumbfounded and just kept saying “why would you want to see that evil man!?”. I didn’t meat a single Russian that was a fan.

I pray for 79 F in the summer. I actually keep my a/c on 74 F because I am too cold walking in after the 95F +. Funny though, summer and fall are my favorite times of the year. Cookouts, pools, reading books on my porch in the morning, a cold glass of sweet tea in the evening on said porch- nothing like it.

@jennifersusanh1 @michaelwgehl @chuckdawg95 @SamaHoole Been a bit since I was bedside. (15 years), but occasionally, we served beer for the severe alcholics. In burn ICU, we put people on alcohol drips to prevent DT’s in b the ICU. They were too fragile to chance DTs.

When my kids were younger and expressed how they wanted to be different (at the time- goth), I was always accepting. I told them “you have a right to dress, feel, and act however you want, and I have the right to make fun of you mercilessly for it”. For some reason, they abandoned such ideas. Crazy how that works!
