We’ve had a great season! First league championship in 30 years! Looking to defend our regional championship this Friday and then bring home a trophy from State in Wichita!
Our regular season ended with a bang last week! Both girls and boys teams won the JV League title AND they both won the Varsity League title!! A true program sweep!
We have had an unbelievable year- and there is plenty more to come as we head into regionals and state! Go Tigers
So proud of this girl. She works so hard, and she deserves everything she gets. Now the 4th fastest Junior in the nation, and the fastest girl in Kansas history!
Here is a link to an article about Maria as well: https://t.co/ZFlFUBKwXY
STATE RECORD TIED
Blue Valley’s Maria Portela, a junior, tied the fastest 100m time ever run by a Kansas high school girl at the EKL Championships with an 11.377, officially rounding to 11.38.
Portela now shares that top mark with Aria Pearce, who ran 11.38 unattached as a freshman two years ago. Pearce, originally from Sharon Springs and later Rock Creek, now competes in California as a junior. That 11.38 still remains Pearce’s career best.
Both performances were wind aided.
Still, Portela’s run was one of the greatest sprint performances Kansas has ever seen.
She also owns a 23.75 in the 200m this season, currently the 3rd fastest mark in Kansas history, while helping lead Blue Valley to its first EKL girls team championship since 1997.
Portela is already among the best sprinters Kansas has ever produced and there’s a real chance she could go down as the greatest in state history.

Heading into the fourth weekend of competition this spring, and an unprecedented one as we enter the post-Kansas Relays era, it’s time to introduce the first edition of the KSXCT&F Power Rankings!
Every school’s ranking is determined by one thing: their athletes’ performances. Here’s how it works:
-Data pulled directly from meets uploaded to the MileSplit database
-Rankings are statewide and span all classifications, from 1A to 6A
-All 18 state-contested events are included
-The top 20 athletes or relay teams per event earn points on a 20-to-1 scale (1st = 20 pts, 2nd = 19 pts ... 20th = 1 pt)
-Athletes sharing the same mark and rank receive the same points
-Points are totaled across all 18 events to produce the final ranking
-No opinions or bias, meaning the rankings are purely based on the data
Should we break down rankings for all six classes too? 👀

@athompsonvideo@PittStGorillas@codycoil I called that game for CAPS from the back of our mini bus off of a monitor because they couldn’t get us in or on top of the press box. I might still have the DVD floating around somewhere. That was a heck of a trip. Fun game, and the start of a great season
“Being a part of that and the kind of impact we’ve had here, and me being able to contribute and carry on that legacy, it’s just a blessing.”
Sterling Lockett makes his first catch at K-State. It goes for 13 yards.
But it means so much more.

In his first start at quarterback, Blue Valley (5A, 1-0) junior Dan Sogard shined in a 28-21 win over Blue Valley Southwest. Sogard was nearly perfect and completed 20 of 23 passes for 298 yards and 4 touchdowns, leading the Tigers. @MIAA_Racy@PittStGorillas@NCAA@TheMIAA@FortHaysState@UCentralMO@pittstate The four years I spent broadcasting the MIAA tournament was unquestionably the highlight of my college experience. And I’m now passing the knowledge and experience gained from that to my high school students. Thank you MIAA for that opportunity! #GoRillas
