After school today our SciOly students helped make some posters for tomorrow’s lunch time activity fair! We had a HUGE turn out for today’s meeting. Do you like science? Want to join? We meet Thursdays after school in room 2425. From 3:30-5 ish.
Part 2 of this activity has students creating their own problem - based on another group’s reps. of motion - extrapolating a data point. Lots of great practice and review!
Today in AP Physics 1 we were finding our slope mates! Students were given either an x-t or v-t graph, they had to find their partner who had their corresponding graph based on the slopes and shapes. Students then worked to make the other three representations of motion.
And to make for a late night on the Friday of the first full week of the year, Astronomy club met at the observatory from 8-11pm to do some observing! Check out our views of both Saturn and Jupiter.
And a HUGE thank you to my AP Physics Teaching crew here at Niles West, Mr. Comstock, and Mr. Noparstak for being just as silly and fun loving AP Physics Teachers! And of course making the obstacle course a reality. Looking towards a wonderful year with this team!
Yesterday we had our first AP Social for our AP Physics 1 students after school! ~30 students competed in different fun events including tin foil hat design, paper towel backpack making - yes those ones in all our science classrooms… (1/…)
We ended the afternoon with lots of pizza, and sitting around getting to know some new friends. My favorite student comment was “I haven’t laughed like this in a long time, I really needed that”. Here’s to a GREAT start to the year in AP Physics 1!
@emmaphys Using Rube Goldbergs to learn about energy transformations and transfers! In my student teaching we had students each make 3-4 step mini ones, then work as a class to combine them into one giant one. We also only used materials from recycle bins to build.
Today’s Astronomy Students we’re mapping the phases of the moon on Oreos after demonstrating them using a light source and styrofoam for the Sun, Earth, and Moon! Fun and delicious activity on this snowy day! #iteachphysics#astronomy#iteachastronomy
Today was a day of doing the impossible! We had the pigs flying here at Niles West! AP Physics 1 kiddos had to complete a lab practical by collecting analyzing data from their pig. Constraints of measurement tools and time were applied. #whenpigsfly#apphysics1#iteachphysics
