@spaulinnit@WhistleBlowerDK I shouldn’t have put intent, because ‘the rules’ etc.
However, in this instance a player is trying to get on the end of a cross. It’s not a challenge per se, he’s just trying to connect and steer it goalwards.
And b) it’s a contact sport.
@DaleJohnsonESPN Good, a player trying to poke a ball home at the back post getting sent off was a nonsense in the first place.
It’s a contact sport and everyone is more interested in watching 10 vs 11 games for competing for balls these days.
@raskolnikovXL@MoChatra It’s not the same for each club though, Arsenal have renewed key men, one big Rice deal, lots of smaller ones. Chelsea’s spending could bite them on the backside soon, who knows.
I think there’s a fine line between paying whatever the 3 guys want, and not ruining future plans.
@raskolnikovXL@MoChatra Our current bill has gone down as we’ve replaced the previous high earners and the new guys come in lower, but they’re doing well so will want increases over next 2/3 yrs.
Plus, our structure is incentivised, if we win the league it will fly up again.
@BigBearKentlaar 26 games to go and you’re talking of failure from an 8 or 9 pt lead… in November. 😂
Arne’s in his first season, we’re just enjoying the unexpected ride!
@Matthew2024LFC Slot wanted a different profile to that of Klopp, the type of DMs the data team had, only Zubimendi profiled well that was available in the summer.
Baleba only had a small sample size of data from last year, this year he’s excelling. Summer was too soon.
@LFC_211 I’ve no problem adding to the squad in January, but whoever we sign needs to be a long-term option. Very difficult for anyone to rock up and go straight into the team. If anything, they come in to bolster the cup side and rest league starters.
@da9mo@asim_lfc You’re calling out a lack of ambition or that signings mean we’ll miss out on a title.
It’s not quite that black and white.
Signings can often be counter intuitive in the middle of a season, we’ve seen some work and some not.
@da9mo@asim_lfc It’s not the same mistakes though is it.
That CB decision was born from the gamble in the summer. In that January, we all knew we needed someone, but the damage was done. Signing someone else either meant no Konate or trying to keep 5 CBs happy.
@da9mo@asim_lfc Whatever we think, Slot backed the squad he had, no one panic bought and we sit top of the league so I can’t really argue with their choice. 🤷🏻♂️
@da9mo@asim_lfc I know we could have, but we didn’t.
No blame on Klopp either, I heard what he said, he and the recruitment team chose to wait for Konate. He said as much, he said the gamble cost us. I can live with it.
This squad is in a much better place now.
@da9mo@asim_lfc I don’t think I can change your opinions.
I hear it all the time about backing the manager. FSG being unambitious.
We have a damn good squad and young lads coming through, there’s always upgrades we can make, but timing is important and not all MUST come in Jan.
@da9mo@asim_lfc Sort of, yes.
As Klopp said at the time, he gambled going into that season a CB down.
Then he said we sign a player for 4/5 years, so we can’t just go out and buy someone for a few weeks until others are fit. Ultimately, he’s right. Poor choices made by him and club.
@da9mo@asim_lfc You constantly post about managers not being backed. 🥱
We were top, 20/21 we lost all our defence - unlucky and even if we had signed Konate earlier, we still would’ve only had him fit. Last year we fell away, Salah, Diaz, Jota injuries hurt.
Grav will stay in this role.
@da9mo@asim_lfc That narrative? You constantly talk about managers not being backed and signings.
We’re top of the league and still it’s not enough for some people.
Zubimendi - whose fault is it he u-turned? Is it possible he still comes in Jan, maybe?
If he does come, who’s being dropped?
@asim_lfc@da9mo You two should get a room.
Perfect match of not understanding how ambition works.
Or the correlation between buying loads of players and expecting instant returns in the middle of a title race. Worked well for Chelsea since they spend a billion!
