The judge, clearly moved by 20 people turning up in person alongside 20 online, ruled entirely in Lud’s favor with low bond.

Update to come when he is home. The team is optimistic about his hearing in May.

Quick explanation so we have an understanding:

Taking someone from their home and detaining them indefinitely against their will is not okay.

This is the ICE playbook: ignoring court orders to jam up the legal process to create exploitable chaos. So many cases like Luds are currently being litigated, with many judges demanding to know why their orders are not being followed. This is by design, especially when those in the WH issuing these illegal orders to ignore due process are not being held accountable by any politicians or lawmakers.

If you weren't aware, just this month, a lawyer for DHS named Julie Le, told a federal judge in Minnesota to hold her in contempt of court so she could get 24 hours of sleep when she was called in to explain why ICE was not complying with court orders. She said, verbatim, "The system sucks. This job sucks," then explained she had singularly been issued nearly 90 cases in a month stemming from ICE's refusal to follow court orders like Lud's situation. A public defender in Dante's Inferno would have less of a caseload.

The bad faith arguments of "illegal this, illegal that," falls apart when you look at the sheer amount of US citizens also being disappeared by ICE simply due to the color of their skin (Vasquez Perdomo v. Noem). Then, we have the government committing both character and physical assassinations of US citizens, including the DOJ being weaponized to demand retaliatory investigations into surviving loved ones. This led to the resignation of a half dozen federal prosecutors (see Joseph H. Thompson and colleagues).

I've personally seen children teargassed in my city and bus drivers pulling over on overpasses because of chemical agents used by ICE on peaceful protesters.

It is up to you to decide what to do with your feelings on the matter. I know what I am doing with mine, and none of it involves yelling into the social media barathrum anymore. Channel your energy for those who need it or deserve it.
