Free @MohamedShahzan
11+ days of unfair detention. The days keep adding up, but so does our resolve. Every second Shahzan spends away from home is a reminder of this ongoing injustice. We will continue to speak up until he is free.

On 26 January 2009, Hon. Ranil Wickremesinghe, Leader of Sri Lanka’s United National Party (UNP), delivered a public lecture on decentralisation at Dharubaaruge, Malé. The lecture was organised by the President’s Office and attended by President Mohamed Nasheed, Vice President Dr. Mohamed Waheed, Cabinet Ministers, and other political leaders.
Hon. Wickremesinghe praised President Nasheed’s efforts in strengthening democracy and shared Sri Lanka’s successful experience with decentralisation. He assured President Nasheed of his full support in implementing the system in the Maldives.
Vice President Dr. Mohamed Waheed highlighted decentralisation as one of the most important reforms for the atolls.
I have been released from Malé Custodial after 11 days of detention (Atholhuvehi 3 days, Dhoonidhoo 8) for exercising my fundamental rights and protesting the release of the detained journalists, @MohamedShahzan and @MrLeevaaan.
I want to thank everyone who called for my freedom, especially @MohamedNasheed, @evattey, members of @MDPSecretariat, Twitter community, and the general public who raised their voice demanding justice.
Thanks to my legal counsel @Imthiyazfahmy, @AbdullaShaairu, @raishan2235 and other attorneys who were appointed and attending to me during this time. Their impeccable representation and perseverance got me through this period.
There aren’t enough words to appreciate how grateful I am for everyone.
I will continue my fight for press freedom and freedom of expression.
Free Shahzan! Free all political detainees!

Credit to the few PNC members at the jetty doing overtime damage control, trying their absolute best to keep the situation under control.
