Press statement: Kenya must not become an offshore risk-containment zone while democratic institutions and constitutional safeguards are undermined.
We call on Kenyans, civil society, and international partners to stand against impunity and demand respect for judicial processes.
Joint priorities identified were:
-Strengthening community policing committees
-Prioritizing officers’ mental wellness
-Enhancing functional and human rights-based training
-Fast-tracking reform commitments
Broader multi-sectoral engagement is key to policing transformation. 3/3
Last Friday, we held a consultative meeting with the Director of Reforms at the Office of the IG, Mr. John Kamau, AIG, (5th right), and his deputy, Mr. David Gachoki (3rd left), to review the status of policing reforms and human rights adherence. 1/3
The meeting resolved to institutionalize regular engagements with key directorates, including training, community policing, and gender and children, to build trust, enhance accountability, and accelerate implementation of reforms. 2/3
Press statement: PRWG-K condemns the transfer of officers implicated in Nandi brutality, warns of systemic impunity and command responsibility failures. Police reform requires independent oversight, firm disciplinary action, and adherence to constitutional and legal standards.
Press statement welcoming the court ruling temporarily suspending the operations of the Panel of Experts on Compensation of Victims of Demonstrations and Public Protests.
Kenya does not need a parallel, illegitimate body created outside the constitutional framework.
Press statement: We condemn the enforced disappearance and incommunicado detention of activist Mwabili Mwagodi. His case exposes a chilling pattern of transnational repression and police impunity targeting human rights defenders.
Press statement: Boniface is not a terrorist. His arrest follows weeks of coordinated, well-funded online disinformation campaigns targeting him, members of PRWGK, human rights defenders and opposition parties.
On #SabaSaba2025, Kenyans protested in 20 counties. At least 9 were shot dead, per @HakiKNCHR. Police used military-grade weapons, unmarked vehicles and masked officers. Protesters were blocked, brutalized and denied medical aid. #FreeToProtest
The Police Reforms Working Group Kenya and the @LawSocietyofKe strongly condemn the violent attack by armed goons on a press conference by Kenyan mothers hosted at @thekhrc office today. This is a direct assault on Kenya's constitutional freedoms, the press, and civil society.
Instead of muzzling public expression+assembly, the nation needs smarter, inclusive strategies that channel state-civic energies into a lasting solution.

@ReformsGroup Statement on the re-emergence of Ndiangui Kinyagua. As we wait for further information on the circumstances around his disappearance, we note that the spike in abductions and prolonged unlawful detention has caused national intimidation and deep fear among many Kenyans.
We urge the @NPSOfficial_KE to address this trust deficit and the fear by disbanding the multi-agency units and arrest the commanders and officers involved in the cases of enforced disappearances documented by several human rights organisations.
