Singapore is great not because everyone’s rich
But because even the average Joe making median income can still live a pretty decent life
Last reported median income in Singapore was $5,000 excluding employer CPF
For starters, here are my monthly LIVING expenses:
- Food: $1,000
- Public transport: $60
- Utilities: $150
- Mobile plan: $8
- Healthcare & Insurance: $800
- Gym and misc: $200
I consider myself to spend slightly more than average on food because my wife and I are foodies
But even then, my monthly expenses are only slightly more than $2,000
On a median salary, that means almost $3,000 of free cash that I could either:
1) Save
2) Invest
On the flipside, most people around the world who’re earning ‘median’ salaries will probably struggle to make ends meet without being perpetually in debt
And yes, US is included
Anti-Indianism is an almost perfect predictor of bad takes.
If you see a guy go all-in on Indian-bashing, you just know he's about to come out with stupid takes on other subjects.
@DRTnky But (and I say this with respect because I live here) you can’t compare messi and LKY. Singapore has zero soft power. You’re now seeing how important soft power is.
No one on earth cares about LKY. It’s sad. 😢 have to tell my wife this every day.
@okaythenfuture Way more expensive in Singapore and the fastest growing segment of the student body is sending their children there precisely because they want them to go to college in the west. This is very true at the non profit elite schools. The PE owned ones are disasters, yes.
@teo_kai_xiang Car lite city - imagine this capex went into busses and public transport. Instead of a tunnel for cars to the cbd. Absolutely bonkers and such a massive inconvenience. Destroyed businesses and neighborhoods for a tunnel.
