The Philippines' stock market is so depressed that its dividend yield is back to Lehman collapse levels. At 3.22%, the country's dividend yield is now more than two percentage points higher than the US, marking a record in a multi-decade data set. You should also know that JP Morgan is adding the Philippines to its widely followed bond indexes in early 2027 too. That could potentially catalyze international interest.

MARCH 2026 INFLATION REPORT
The Philippines’ headline inflation or overall inflation increased to 4.1 percent in March 2026 from 2.4 percent in February 2026.
And just like that, we’re done with our special coverage of Marcos’ fourth State of the Nation address.
Things I’ll remember: a lovely new co-anchor. A last-minute costume change. 3 mugs of coffee. And a pundit who literally fell asleep listening to the speech 😁
JUST NOW. US Ambassador to the Philippines MaryKay Carlson delivers her keynote at the Stratbase Forum on the 9th Anniv of the Arbitral Ruling, talking about how the US and PH stand “shoulder-to-shoulder as ironclad allies bound by shared history and common values”@onenewsph
But I’d also like to believe it was a powerful reminder of the role journalism continues to play in a vibrant democracy. Thank you to the whole crew who pulled off a marathon 31-hour coverage seamlessly. And to everyone who shared their perspectives with us. The work continues.
Stepped off a 22-hour flight from Europe to go straight into 6 hours of live programming for the 2025 midterm election—just in time for the results too! I forgot for a minute how old I was 😂
But what a privilege it was to have had a front-row seat to such a pivotal election, one defined by major upsets that raised urgent questions about how we measure public sentiment—and how these in turn shape voter behavior and media narratives.
After Trump 2.0, it was the second time this year I’ve had to report something quite different from what the polls forecast. There’s a lesson in here about listening more closely and reporting beyond the numbers.
JUST IN. Flight RP-C5219 carrying former Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte on the move, reportedly having been cleared for takeoff. Plane’s route will take it to Dubai, then Rotterdam in the Netherlands. Accompanying him are former ES Medialdea, a nurse, and an assistant.
As previously mentioned, @cesdrilon is joining TBS starting Monday with @shawnyao and @PaulineVerzosa. But towards the end of this segment, it was announced that @ReggieLay will join #Storycon with Ed Lingao, Ronald Llamas and Amy Pamintuan, also starting Monday.
#TheBigStory: “We’ll all have a piece of the cake, and it will be a riot!”
That certainly how it has been for the past year or so, slugging it out with these ladies @ReggieLay and @shawnyao.
Shawn throwing the opening jabs, me throwing the side punch, and then Regina for that final uppercut. We shift roles every now and then. Sitting on the red couch has been so much fun because you’d never have to do the battle alone. Even as we come from different places, somehow the three of us together, worked.
Thank you ladies, as there could not have been better motivation to study and dive deep into issues, than to sit down on that red couch with the both of you. Both sharp and quick-witted, you could NEVER come to the studio unprepared.
I have lots to thank this show for. At the start it was just reading, and then it became throwing a few questions, and then finally it became lots of banter and throwing questions on the fly. No better training than to just come out there and do it.
Thank you to my producers from #TheBigStory for all the trust and confidence these past four years. We are relatively small compared to the others, but I’m proud that together, we could hold ourselves and pack a punch. 🙏🏻 Love you my Big Story family!!!
On to the next battlefield! 🙏🏻 @onenewsph
Suddenly they’re out in full force at the hearings of the Senate committee on Women, Children, Family Relations and Gender Equality. Pre-Alice Guo, these halls were often half-empty. Never let a good crisis go to waste, I guess.
The questions asked of her today should’ve been asked a year ago. So be wary of the politicians who are bandwagoning or grandstanding now. They gave up their fiscal duties to the taxpayers in the name of political alliances.
She is right about one thing: the “political climate” absolutely has something to do with it. In 2023, the same House committee passed her proposed budget in 22min, without asking a single question, out of “parliamentary courtesy”. 21 panel members approved it.
So what changed?
Canada says it’s helping the Philippines “switch on the light” in the West Philippine Sea by sharing its Dark Vessel Detection System, a satellite-based multimodal technology that provides an enhanced view of maritime activity, for 5 years. @StratbaseADRi@onenewsph
