lestat's taken part in multiple massacres and killed a couple people despite having access to an 'ethical' blood farm, so this is pretty underwhelming.
where are armand's atrocities 😔
they could not even be bothered to mention armand deleting his memories in the huge "previously on", and now that louis is having a hard time telling what's real no mention of what could've easily caused some damage, psychologically or vampirically 1/
the psychological horror of s2 and the impact of louis going from just an uncertain feeling to realising he knows nothing and cant be sure of anything about the past 80 years of his life just… not having an effect on s3 so far. okay
it's actually really interesting how some people seem to be so committed to defending lestat's season that they're in denial of the ways the show is doing *lestat* dirty rn too (like wrt amc's queerphobic censorship of lestat's m/m relationships compared to explicit m/f scenes)
i now realize “lestat is cringe and vulgar so must be his season” is a huge cope because he’s not. tvl is a beautiful, aesthetic, sorrowful book. lestat is relatable and has love and empathy for everyone. where the idea of real lestat should be repulsive and unlikable came from?
Louis has his own storyline and barely appears in the rockstat scenes so no. The expanded modern lestat storyline is cutting into his backstory (aka the actual book) time
Why did Rolin take the rockstar scenes, which were short in TVL and expand them to the whole season? Most of TVL is Lestat’s past and we only get glimpses of it? Was this their way of keeping Jacob in the show? If yes, the writers needed to come up with a more creative approach.
w them removing so much of the bad stuff that armand did to lestat in the book, it kinda doesn’t even make sense that lestat dislikes him so much. no nickimand, no noncon blood drinking, (presumably) no forcing him into the trial. lestat looks kinda petty atp. do something rolin
#tvlcritical
one of the biggest struggles I’m having with tvl is the framing devices. there’s too many at play and, imo, none of them are being executed in a way that is fostering meaningful character development🧵 (1/10)
it's *my* turn to shill bc if folks wanna read some good tvl analysis from a journalist who enjoyed the season but doesn't talk down to fans who have critiques, kirsten is doing some great coverage over on ihorror. give her articles a click and support her work y'all:
the fact that they changed it to the second much better interview being published instead of the san fran one from the books 😭 how is lestat STILL mad? Brother louis was so kind to you he had to take shit from daniel too how are you mad at HIM
this is one of the few things i’m actually interested in getting lestat's perspective on, not because i think his account is more reliable or any of that stupid bullshit, but because i want to hear the reasoning behind this disaster of a plan
armand also kidnapped nicki, and then lestat started a situationship with him? and they're all at the theatre together??
i guess daniel is the last person to find that to be questionable behaviour but feels like something we need to revisit in the future...
The biggest issue for me is the condensed timeline. In one scene Nicki is perfectly fine as human. The next one he's traumatised after his kidnapping - ok, understandable. Then he's batshit crazy. The change is sudden, even if Lestat says he was always bipolar. I want to see it!
