@CheerfulReader @OctoCassandra @theistinthought@westerninfidel I just can't abide the idea that men (husbands) are supposed to have no agency and not be consulted in decisions or the idea that because they can't simply go down to the local factory and make upper middle class wages on 45 hours a week they are worthless.
@CheerfulReader @OctoCassandra @theistinthought@westerninfidel To be clear- my situation isn't bad; things are tight, but my wife and I work together towards our mutual goals because our relationship is based on love and mutual respect.
@OctoCassandra @theistinthought@westerninfidel You know what? I'm blocking you- you are a cruel person, and I don't desire this kind o cruelty in my life- goodbye.
@CheerfulReader @OctoCassandra @theistinthought@westerninfidel Neither do I- which is why my wife and I discussed this stuff and made decisions that work for our family together; but that's not the situation that was presented.
@OctoCassandra @theistinthought@westerninfidel Does the husband have agency?
Are his feelings, wants, and desires valid?
Or, as seems to be your thesis, are men "lesser" than women? Are men merely meant to be emotionless money farms then?
@OctoCassandra @theistinthought@westerninfidel A good woman would never tell her husband that she has made a decision contrary to what they'd discussed before and demand that he simply accept it- correct.
@OctoCassandra @theistinthought@westerninfidel I get it- you think that men should be able to provide for a family the way they did in worlds that no longer exist-- I understand feeling that way, but it's not the modern man's fault that society reordered itself to make doing so a pipe dream for most.
@theistinthought @OctoCassandra @westerninfidel That's easier said than done- starting a family require MORE house and car rather than less, and many of these things are not "movable"- I can't simply sell a car and downgrade without losing a great deal (for instance).
@OctoCassandra @westerninfidel Now you have to pay for a two income lifestyle on your single income, with the implication that if you are not able to do so you are worthless and "less of a man".
@OctoCassandra @westerninfidel Ok- but now run the scenario in reverse:
You get married. You buy a house and two cars, taking on debt based on two incomes. Then you have a child, your wife telling you she intends to go back to work.
Then changes her mind.
@kaijubushi Yes- but again, this is based on a narrow experience band- the newer-nicer-more brand name than the Army's "lowest bidder" procurement mags may have no issues in this regard.
