Two powerful earthquakes (magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5) struck near Caracas, Venezuela, killing at least 32 people and injuring about 700.
Buildings collapsed, transport and airports were shut down, and a state of emergency was declared as rescuers searched for survivors.
More than 20 aftershocks followed, tsunami warnings were later lifted, and several countries—including the US, Brazil, Ecuador, El Salvador, Türkiye, and Argentina—offered aid as officials warned the death toll could rise.
