Congrats to the authors @Yale on this exciting and important work! #BrainTCellsRule || The subfornical organ is a nucleus for gut-derived T cells that regulate behaviour | Nature https://t.co/ni9WiqH4em
Very happy to share our new recently published work!
🧬 lrrtm4l1 knockout in #zebrafish leads to:
⚠️ Increased anxiety
❌ Reduced aggression
...without changes in locomotion or social interaction.
A fresh angle on #LRRTM4 and neuropsychiatric disease.

Our results highlight LRRTM4L1 as a potential modulator of dopaminergic & adenosinergic signaling—linking synaptic structure to emotional behavior.
This may offer new insight into aggression/anxiety in neuropsychiatric conditions like ASD & Tourette's.
Key findings:
High lrrtm4l1 expression in brain regions homologoud to amygdala & hippocampus
KO zebrafish anxious in 3 assays (OFT, novel tank, light/dark)
Less aggression in mirror-induced tests
Why does this matter?
LRRTM4 is a synaptic adhesion protein linked to aggression & autism in humans, but its functional role in behavior has remained unclear.
We used zebrafish to dissect behavior, transcriptomics & the metabolome.
We are hiring a new PhD student!

Antipsychotics are often prescribed to suppress hyperaggression. Do they really suppress aggression or just cause sedation? Antipsychotics target dopamine receptors. Our new study, published today @Nature, uncovered the role of dopamine in aggression.
