Can't stop thinking about the presentation I heard this morning in the Joint Committee on Health on sexual assault in West Virginia.
One in 6 women here will be a victim of an attempted or completed forcible rape — higher than New York, Texas or Pennsylvania.
That video of a man spraying a homeless person with a hose is one of the most disturbing things I've seen. When we dehumanize the homeless for their poverty we not only create the conditions for them to be hurt, we also equate human-ness with wealth, which is immensely dangerous.
So frustrating to watch people argue and defend the subject to death that they know not much about!!! For the last time, MSG is not bad for you! It’s a myth rooted in racism!!!
Norma Thornton, 78, was arrested for bringing meals to homeless people in a public park without a permit. Now, she's suing the city.

NEW: I spent five days at a queer summer camp in West Virginia, where I taught op-ed writing to Appalachian teens. The camp was one of the best experiences of my life, and I wasn't the only person who felt that way. I've never seen so much happy crying.

This 72-year-old civil rights activist, gunned down while grocery shopping yesterday, wrote a letter to the editor last year demanding stronger gun regulation. Linked herein. RIP, Kat Massey https://t.co/v0AcrMzh1I
The myth of “pulling yourself up by your bootstraps” is a cruel hoax designed to convince poor people and people of color that the injustices they face are a result of their own actions, rather than an oppressive system rigged against them.
