Teaching children with hearing loss how to use listening and spoken language.
Congratulations to Casey Reimer, PhD, and Amanda Ortmann, PhD, on securing grants from the U.S. Dept. of Education. This will reduce the financial burden for graduate students & further our mission to train future leaders in deaf education and audiology. https://t.co/P8Ew0KJVUO.
We celebrate Audiology Awareness Month by honoring all of the audiologists who play a vital role in the case management of all hearing, balance, & other neural system disorders. Want to be an audiologist? https://t.co/GiFSI0GdkD Thank you, Sarah (4th-year AuD) for the artwork!

@literacypodcast The relationship between spoken language, reading and writing is one of the reasons children who are deaf may have a more difficult time learning to read and write. #deaf#reading#writing#literacy#teaching
"Reading and writing float on a sea of talk." ~Doug Fisher 🌊
Students process what they read and prepare for writing by TALKING!
Academic talk, turn and talk, Socratic Seminars are some ways students prepare for writing tasks.
Had a fantastic time visiting with AuD & MSDE preceptors at our happy hour event. We enjoyed great food and fun and 4 lucky individuals walked away with WashU raffle gifts. Huge thanks to all our preceptors for their effort throughout the year to support our students’ training!
So much effort and resources have been put into improving reading outcomes, whereas, writing seems to have been forgotten. Literacy = reading + writing #reading#Literacy#writing#Teaching@literacypodcast
Congrats to this year’s PACS award recipients: Susan Elizabeth Jackson, MSDE - Antoinette Francis Dames Award for outstanding scholarship in teaching the hearing impaired, & Madelyn Nichole Birkelbach, AuD - Max A. Goldstein Award for excellence and professional promise. #washu23

Moderating this panel was a highlight of my year. These educators helped shape me into the professional I am today. I would be not where I am without them. Thank you for sharing your experiences about working in the field of deaf education for 30-40 years! #DeafEd#Teaching
PACS students & undergrads had an incredible opportunity to learn from a panel of experienced teachers of the #deaf. Dr. Casey Reimer hosted the event, where the panel discussed #deafeducation, their personal insights, and gave tips for new teachers. Thanks to everyone involved!
