The ACA has needed emergency subsidies for 15 years just so people can afford it. That is not a healthcare system that works. That is a broken pricing structure held together with federal patches that expire on schedule.

Extending the credits fixes nothing. It just delays the same conversation, with more debt accumulated and the same problem untouched.

If after three administrations and trillions of dollars the plan still is not affordable without permanent subsidy, the honest question is not why did they let the credits expire. The honest question is why are premiums still so high that without a subsidy nobody can pay them.

Neither party answers that. Because answering it means touching regulations, hospital monopolies, and pharma. And that is where the compassion ends on both sides.
