Advocating for justice: urging the release of IPP prisoners. Labour, it's time to act and rectify the mistake you made when creating this inhumane sentence.
@Keir_Starmer@ShabanaMahmood Prisoners including murderers and sex offenders, are released every day, yet you hold the IPP sentence over the heads of those who don’t deserve it. It’s an abolished sentence - why are they still suffering? #EndIPP@itvnews@Channel4News
@Keir_Starmer@ShabanaMahmood The public cares more about their increased taxes than the fear of IPP’s being released who have served their sentences. £40,000 per year per IPP prisoner onto taxpayers for a broken system. Stop making excuses. #EndIPP@Channel4News@itvnews
Is the government any closer to releasing prisoners held under IPP? | Judging by the latest developments in parliament, there is still no sign that one of the most egregious abuses of human rights in Britain is going to be resolved: https://t.co/V7VrdF3VXW
@Keir_Starmer@ShabanaMahmood you can’t punish people for a fault in your law, that was created and punished, release these IPP prisoners and give them the mental health care they deserve.
When discussing ipp resentencing in parliament about why they will not agree to re sentencing ipp’s, it was argued that they would be too mentally ill to be let out, is that not because of what the sentence has done to them?
We are just going around in circles here!
People are dying mentally and physically
So who’s taking the baton then? @JamesTCobbler

Thank you so much @Fox_Claire for raising this important point about the impact IPP sentences can have on people. Many are punished further for the damaged caused by the sentence.
“How many more people will they watch die? If this Bill has problems, sit down and iron them out. Lie awake all night in turmoil like my mum and I do until it is perfect.”

Over the past year I have spoken to countless families devastated by the IPP sentence.
This week Lord Thomas, formerly the country’s top judge, backed our @Independent campaign for a review of the ‘morally wrong’ indefinite terms.

@SecretParole How can we live in a country where an abolished sentence still traps people, leaving them to suffer while the government paves a path to hell for them? This is a grave injustice. #IPP#JusticeReform
@SecretParole If one in four prisoners meet the criteria for release, it raises serious concerns about the fairness of the system. Holding people long after their sentences end feels extreme, especially on an abolished sentence. #IPPscandal

He started his day with a smile
Trying to be productive, it’s been a while
He often stared out the window dreaming of freedom..
He saw his peers come and go, not ever knowing when he’d go
He slept and prayed for his dreams to come true
He wished he knew @JamesTCobbler@UNGRIPP
Day 100 of a new government
The white dots show the 2,734 people still in prison serving an IPP sentence
The red dots show the 90 people who’ve taken their own life in prison whilst serving an IPP sentence
When will it be enough?
@Keir_Starmer@ShabanaMahmood@JamesTCobbler
Borrowed this letter from Ungripp. @ShabanaMahmood you dont have to challenge the Government now, you are the Government. You are in a very strong position as Secretary of State for Justice to end the IPP sentence once and for all. No excuses.
