Dr Derek Egan will be participating today in panels discussing the place of expert evidence in construction mediations and adjudications, along with other experts and legal professionals. This is all part of London International Disputes week events https://t.co/KY77PseQIv
Remedy's Derek Egan is pleased to be honoured by the Pakistan Society of Civil Engineers with Associate membership after presenting a CPD lecture on piling for one of their recent meetings.
Thought for the day:
As humans we often want QUICK, CHEAP with QUALITY – this is the unattainable triangle! If we want QUICK either COSTS will go up or QUALITY will go down – anything else is impossible.
We are pleased to report that #piling stabilisation work will be starting on one of our projects next week. The house, which still retains its 18th Century elements, has been under threat of land sliding from the hillside below.
We have been involved in another challenging new #development which involves evaluation of a large historic #landslip. The challenge – how to frame the development so that the inherent hillside stability is not compromised? #geotechnicalengineering
We are excited to be part of the @GE_magazine Awards 2022. Our Technical Director, Dan Simpson has finished the first stage of online judging and is looking forward to meeting the finalists as part of the next stage of judging in July. Best of luck to all those who entered.
We came across an interesting feature whilst inspecting a building subject to ground movement. It seems that the bottom half of these steps have moved off down hill a fair way since they were built! #landslides
Load transfer and other arching effects are mechanisms frequently met in #geotechnical#engineering – particularly with granular materials – captured perfectly here in this peppercorn mill!!
A good example of a Eurocode 7 STR failure where ‘the strength of structural materials is significant in providing resistance’ EC7 Clause 2.4.7.1 (1). r in this case where the strength of the structural materials i.e.the masonry wall were insufficient to resist the forces applied
An interesting Isle of Wight development site where the potential impact of #landslide displaced Upper Greensand blocks needs to be considered. Living with the effects of historic land sliding certainly provides interesting #engineering challenges.
A sobering reminder that great care is always required when using construction equipment. It is not only in the working platform design but understanding the forces construction plant, such as cranes & piling rigs exert on the ground.

Illustrating the power of drone technology to get a holistic view of a site. From just a 15 minute drone flight we could get additional information, including accurate 2D & 3D models to add value to our design and execution planning for implementation of remedial works.#landslide
