OLD STORIES - SICKNESS
Told you I spent over 13yrs in a CHILDREN’s HOME in TORORO which actually means I have more years in TORORO than LWAKHAKHA Namisidwa district.
Anyways, the children’s home taught me a lot about real life and how to navigate it without too much feelings. Those were wild times Jameni.
As young boys then, you would get tired of going to shule or school daily and would try to fake SICKNESS so you don’t go to school.
The challenge was that if you pretended to be sick, a guy would come to your bed early just to confirm you are sick not because they cared.
He would then book your portion of lunch and dinner without your knowledge because there was a believe that a sick person had no appetite.
Food generally speaking was for scratching in the children’s home, the portions were very miserable. Even those who ate still felt hungry.
In our homes today like I now see it, when people are sick, we try to push them to at least eat something. Life would go on like you didn’t exist.
On many occasions, you would quickly change your mind and head to school because pretending you were sick was worse than being sick.
