However, this year’s economic sciences laureate Claudia Goldin has shown that the bulk of this earnings difference is now between men and women in the same occupation, and that it largely arises with the birth of the first child.

In recent @RevEconStud paper, with @RemziKaygusuz@NezihGuner , we provide a macroeconomic framework to evaluate child-related transfers. It helps to understand tradeoffs in Biden's calls for childcare subsidies and expansion of #ChildTaxCredit.
Eliminating the welfare state generates large aggregate welfare losses. Yet, most households support its elimination. Universal Basic Income does not improve upon the current system. But UBI, together with a proportional tax, i.e. a Negative Income Tax experiment, does.
