Fact check: A claim credited to Mr. Donald Duke @Donald_Duke that Omoyele Sowore @sowore may not be running for president in 2027 is incorrect.

INEC’s final list of 18 presidential candidates, released 12 September 2026, includes Sowore as the African Action Congress (AAC) nominee, with Haruna Garba Magashi as running mate. AAC adopted him by consensus in May 2026.

The list also includes Bola Tinubu (APC), Atiku Abubakar (ADC), Peter Obi (NDC), Donald Duke (PRP) and others. Sowore is an official candidate on the 2027 ballot.

As we proceed towards the election; we implore Nigerians to use official websites of the respective agencies to confirm information whenever they are unsure.

Fact check on trains through Yaba and Ebute Metta.

What actually runs on that corridor:

1. Lagos-Ibadan standard gauge service starts at Mobolaji Johnson Station in Ebute Metta. These are passenger trains (Economy, Business, First Class). Typical schedule is about two trips each way on weekdays, with extra runs on some weekends.

2. Lagos Red Line is a commuter passenger service. It has stations at Yaba, Ebute Metta and Oyingbo, and shares the NRC standard-gauge corridor from Agbado to Ebute Metta Junction. This is the frequent local traffic people in the area see.

3. Container freight from Apapa toward Ibadan (Moniya) does exist on the same standard-gauge line. Recent NRC and APM Terminals operations have been about three times a week (often Monday, Wednesday, Friday), not all day, every day.

Summary of Findings:

Trains do move through Ebute Metta and Yaba. Most of what residents see, and what used to hold traffic at level crossings, are passenger trains, not long freight consists. Lagos built flyovers at Yaba, Oyingbo, Mushin and Ikeja mainly because of those passenger operations.
The policy point still stands: more port cargo should go by rail. The picture of constant, mile-long freight trains at Yaba or Ebute Metta is not accurate.

This tweet lumps three different people together and treats “NED-funded = CIA asset.” That’s sloppy.

Sowore / Sahara Reporters: Public grant records show Ford Foundation, Omidyar Network, and MacArthur Foundation; not NED. Those are real Western foundation grants. They are not the same thing as an NED line item, and they are not proof of CIA operational control.

Aisha Yesufu: She has repeatedly said BBOG was self-funded, unregistered, and never took USAID/foreign grants. The “NED” claim circulating about her is association-by-photo, not a published NED award. If someone has a grant listing with her name on it, post the document. She has also been on fellowship — which is not a certain basis for determining culpability.

Samson Itodo / Yiaga Africa: This one is actually documented. Yiaga itself says its Community Organizing Institute is supported by NED, has co-hosted events with NED, and appears on partner/contract lists. That’s election-observation and civic-training money, which many African CSOs take. You can criticize that model. You cannot pretend the other two have the same paper trail.
Silence is not a confession. If the charge is “NED funded,” show the grant. If the charge is “CIA tool,” that’s a separate claim that needs evidence beyond “Western foundation + critic of government.”

P&P understands the need to demystify imposters and tools of imperialism, we must do a thorough job of unmasking impostors. Nigerian problems are vast. Foreign grants don’t erase that, and they also don’t automatically turn every critic into an imperial agent.
