RENEW is a grassroots organization working to increase access to clean energy for low income and non-English-speaking households and communities of color.
We believe everyone should have access to the benefits of solar power, but the system favors people & corps with deep pockets. It doesn't have to be that way! Join us May 16, 6-8 pm, at The Village Worcester to learn about community-owned solar and how you can be part of it.
This is such an exciting development! Balcony solar promises immediate relief for energy-burdened renters who cannot otherwise reap any benefits from solar projects.
Plug-in solar (also known as “balcony solar”) could be transformational in expanding clean energy & empowering renters & homeowners to lower their electric bills. It’s why I’m authoring legislation (Senate Bill 868) to allow people to use them.
These small, low cost devices can be plugged into a wall socket. They generate a modest amount of solar energy to power a portion of your energy needs. That means you’re drawing less from the grid & your bill is lower. Under existing law, people need to get full interconnection agreements with their utilities in order to use plug-in solar. Almost no one engages in that onerous process. SB 868 eliminates that requirement.
Currently, renters typically cannot install rooftop solar & many homeowners can’t due to physical constraints or not being able to afford the upfront investment. Plug-in solar allows these folks to benefit & lower their bills.

The Trump administration attempting to cancel $7B in Solar for All grants—gutting clean energy jobs, defying court orders, and pulling the rug out from under communities promised lower bills and energy access. This isn’t policy. It’s punishment.
Lifting up a message from @USFWC who do amazing work supporting co-ops with information, tools, and advice. We loved our experience working with a USFWC member to create a strategic plan for RENEW to position ourselves to build community owned solar projects in Worcester.

Banning competitive electricity suppliers in MA “is likely the easiest thing to do to make energy more affordable … it doesn’t require tax dollars, and it doesn’t require raising one person’s rate to lower another person’s rate.”
