People keep falling into the trap of thinking ‘perks & benefits’ = good culture:
Culture is not:
- company swag
- subsidized phone & internet
- discounted gym memberships
- free food/snacks
- accolades & awards
@randomrecruiter The great leaning out of Tech isn’t slowing down. I know a manager at Amazon and he was put on a PIP for suspect reasons to begin with and they gave him 2x the work to complete during that period. Not even being subtle about it…
@randomrecruiter It’s also a very relationship based industry given how commoditized it is (generally speaking) . If you were relying on cold outreach these last 2+ years to get biz (with the way the market has been) you probably had a really tough time trying to make it.
@randomrecruiter Well said. I find myself battling recruiting ‘experts’ on LinkedIn who put so much emphasis on the skills section. Most (good) recruiters and HMs look at that list with a grain of salt.
@asaio87@CStephensCCIM@sweatystartup Clearly it’s not universal and not everyone should do it. If people don’t want to be parents or aren’t up for the challenge, then maybe it’s a good idea if those people don’t become parents…
@randomrecruiter Yeah I see so much cheerleading on LinkedIn around job hopping (not the strategic kind) and “stop judging people for having short tenures.” They’re probably right but the reality is most hiring managers I know wouldn’t interview that person you just described.
@contractorkeith Always DeWalt and it’s one of the last great American power tool companies (part of Stanley Black & Decker). Milwaukee sold themselves off years ago to a China based manufacturing conglomerate.
@chiefaioffice I’ve seen a few of these now and really liked https://t.co/Q9Qc5QrEJr since it felt more personable. I agree that this could be a good use case for initial screenings.
If you’re interviewing at a company and it looks good.
Keep looking.
Doesn't matter if you land a final interview and everyone says how great you are.
Too many people get attached to one company.
Remember, they're courting 2-3 other people they also invited to a final round.
