A narrative being pushed about AEAs is that they lack oversight. They have local Boards and are accredited through the State. The โAEA Billโ moves the authority for supervision to an unelected state employee under the direct supervision of theโฆ Governor. People see it, right?
Interesting. As Iowa Dept of Education prepares to dismantle AEAs (under legislation not even out of committee) its own website shares how great the CURRENT AEA SYSTEM IS. https://t.co/2AjmPWGivv Should make advocating easier if the DE has publicly posted it for us.#ialegis
Governor Reynolds said โIt's been 50 yrs since Iowa's AEAs faced a comprehensive review."
That's not true -each AEA had accreditation reviews within the last few years from the Iowa Department of Education.
Note: All of Iowa's AEAs were re-accredited.

Maybe Schoolhouse Rock is failing me. Bills have to pass 2 chambers & be signed by the Governor to be laws. The AEA Bill dropped yesterday & the DE has an email out w/a deadline to choose if districts are going to stay w/the AEA & has jobs posted. Uhhhโฆ democracy? Transparency?
