Unexpected hospital bills can devastate a family. That’s why we allocated $137 million to help hospitals cover uncompensated care. When insurance won’t cover it and you can’t handle any more out of pocket expenses, these dollars are here to help bridge the gap.

Even simple legislation can have a lifesaving impact. This year, we allowed schools to administer any prescribed form of epinephrine, not just auto-injectors.

To the sailors serving far from home tonight, and to the families who wait for them, thank you. Your sacrifice does not go unnoticed. Happy birthday to the U.S. Navy.

Farming is more than a job. It’s a legacy passed down through generations and a promise to feed a nation. Thank you to every farmer and farm family for all you do. Happy National Farmers Day!

It seems like scammers are only getting more and more prevalent as the years go on, and with every day’s advances in technology, our seniors are left the most vulnerable. That’s why we gave the TBI greater latitude to investigate these elder financial scams.

Healthy children make stronger classrooms, stronger families, and stronger communities. I am so proud to keep working for policies that keep our kids happy and healthy.

[Representative Rebecca Alexander @RepAlexander7]

This year, we allocated $10 million for additional school safety grants. Our children deserve to learn in a safe environment, and in this day and time, we must do everything in our power to keep our kids safe.

Every October we wear pink to honor the strength of breast cancer survivors. I am so proud of the legislation I passed that requires insurance companies to cover the cost of mammograms, ultrasounds and supplemental breast MRIs when medically necessary.

Last session, we expanded the definition of vehicular assault and raised penalties for intoxicated drivers causing serious injury. We are working to make our roads safer; if you drink, please don’t drive, Tennessee.

VFW posts across our state are more than meeting halls. They are lifelines for veterans navigating benefits, camaraderie, and the transition home. We honor and appreciate that mission today and every day.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation does such a wonderful job keeping Tennesseans safe and stopping crime. I am so glad we were able to deliver $14 million in funding to create many new positions inside the TBI that will help them do even more to serve our state.
