Amidst the overwhelming loss on this day twenty-five years ago, my thoughts turn to then-San Ramon resident Tom Burnett Jr. and Bay Area resident and Cal alum Mark Bingham who were among the heroes of Flight 93 who fought back against the terrorists who had hijacked their plane and prevented it from reaching its intended target. On the 25th anniversary of the September 11th attacks, I am holding in my heart all of the victims, first responders, and families that were impacted that horrible day.

Today we had the opportunity to present to @511ccta the funding I secured to help the agency upgrade and develop a network of smart traffic signals between Antioch and Oakley to improve commute times, reduce delays, and ease congestion. This project is part of a larger effort that I’ve been proud to support to make Contra Costa one of the first counties in the country with this transformational technology.

Proud to announce another delivery of federal dollars to our district for community improvement projects – this time to Diablo Water District to provide reinforcements to water infrastructure to mitigate risks from seismic events, safeguard water supply, and contribute to the region’s overall disaster preparedness strategy.

As part of my commitment to the safety of our district, I met with officers of the Oakley Police Department and accompanied them out in the field to learn more about what needs to be done at the federal level to support them and our community.

Today I introduced a bill that would provide much needed reforms to our tech policy to hold Big Tech companies accountable for harm they cause, particularly to young people, by allowing Americans to bring legal action against them. This legislation combined with the recent legal action against companies like Meta should send a loud message: Big Tech’s days of acting with impunity, wreaking havoc, and then asking for forgiveness once the damage has been done are over.

UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital – San Ramon Outpatient Center provides incredible, family-centered care to its patients and today, in continuation of our Healthcare Listening Tour, I toured the facility and met with its dedicated leadership to discuss how I can support their mission in Congress.

As part of our Public Safety Listening Tour, I had the opportunity today to participate in a ride-along with the San Ramon Fire Protection District and discuss fire safety in CA-10 with the brave firefighters of this department.

I continued our district-wide Education Listening Tour today with a visit to DVC’s San Ramon Campus where I met with faculty, students, and staff to hear about the challenges they face and how we can be supportive at the federal level to help meet the needs of their community.

Today I joined a safety briefing with Concord Police Department before heading out into the community for a ride-along. These Public Safety Listening Tours are a wonderful opportunity to hear directly from first responders in our region about the challenges they are facing and federal resources they might need to keep CA-10 safe.

I joined a local chapter of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association in Concord to share a legislative update, answer questions, and discuss legislation impacting federal employees. Nearly 400,000 federal employees call California home, representing federal agencies including the Forest Service, Army Corps of Engineers, Veterans Affairs, and Postal Service, and I was proud to gather with these dedicated current and retired federal employees.

The repercussions of Republicans’ cuts to Medicaid extend far beyond the hospital and doctor’s office. Medicaid is also a significant funding source for special needs services in K-12 schools, including instructional assistants, who help keep classrooms running. This is the on-the-ground toll of Republicans’ ruthless cuts, and American children and families are suffering because of it.
