Rep. Jimmy Panetta

I am honored to represent California's 19th congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Had an impactful meeting with financial managers to discuss federal solutions to improve financial literacy and help Americans plan for retirement.

Proud to have received a perfect score from the Human Rights Campaign for the 119th Congress. I will continue fighting for legislation that protects the rights and dignity of our LGBTQ communities in CA-19 and across the country.

With El Niño conditions strengthening ahead of winter, I encourage everyone in CA-19 to prepare now for possible heavy rain, flooding, and other storm impacts. Make an evacuation plan, gather essential supplies and medications, and sign up for local emergency alerts.

Great to join our local leaders and community members to celebrate the reopening of the CAPSLO Infant and Toddler Head Start Program in Atascadero! Always glad to show my support for partners like CAPSLO.

Our public lands are facing a maintenance crisis, with unusable trails, unsafe bridges, and unprecedented wildfire risk. That’s why I joined my colleagues in demanding answers from the U.S. Forest Service about how layoffs, hiring restrictions, and budget cuts are affecting its ability to maintain our trails and protect nearby communities. I will continue working in Congress to keep our trails safe and accessible and protect our public lands in California’s 19th Congressional District.

Proud to put $65,000 back in my constituent’s pockets from the IRS. One of the best parts of my job is returning my constituents’ hard-earned money they are owed from the federal government. When a community member reached out for help because he was missing his 2025 IRS refund, I secured it from the agency within just a couple of weeks.

Elon Musk’s reported order to restrict Starlink service stripped Ukraine of critical defenses while Russia rains down missiles and drones on civilians. Congress should exercise our authority to investigate Musk’s reported decision and any White House involvement, compel testimony, and hold those responsible accountable. We must stand with Ukraine as it defends its people and its democracy from Putin’s aggression.

There have been 60 reported deaths in ICE custody during this Administration, including 27 this year alone. These deaths underscore the urgent need for oversight of DHS’s detention practices and its use of untrained and unaccountable agents for immigration enforcement. That’s why I stand with my colleagues in the Congressional Hispanic Caucus in demanding transparency and accountability from this Administration, and pushing for greater congressional oversight, building on my work to reform our immigration system and visits to detention facilities throughout the country. I will continue to fight for oversight of this Administration and work for commonsense immigration reform in Congress.

This Administration is enabling Putin’s aggression and betraying our Ukrainian allies by waiving new sanctions against Russia, even as Russia continues missile strikes against innocent civilians. The President must enforce the sanctions, stop placating a vile dictator, and support Ukraine’s fight to defend its democracy.

Election Day is just *two weeks* away! Make your voice heard and play your part in our democracy. Cast your ballot to help shape the future of our community and country.

[Rep. Jimmy Panetta @RepJimmyPanetta]

Restricting Ukraine’s access to Starlink’s military service as Russia rains down missiles and drones on its cities is despicable and dangerous. Reports that the order came from inside the White House demand a full investigation and accountability for those responsible. This Administration must restore full service, stand against Putin’s aggression, and stand with the people of Ukraine.

[Rep. Jimmy Panetta @RepJimmyPanetta]

The President’s decision to allow Russian diesel imports weakens economic pressure on Putin and undermines our support for Ukraine. That’s why I’m proud to cosponsor @RepGregoryMeeks’ bipartisan Prohibit Corrupt Russia Oil Deals Act to block this deal. I will continue to push back against Russian aggression and stand up for Ukraine.

Appreciated the opportunity to talk to a local restaurant owner to hear about the challenges they face and how I can continue to support small businesses throughout CA-19.

[Rep. Jimmy Panetta @RepJimmyPanetta]

Always appreciate the opportunity to meet with Santa Cruz County Supervisor Justin Cummings and his staff to discuss our work together for our constituents.

[Rep. Jimmy Panetta @RepJimmyPanetta]

Great to host another town hall with members of a local neighborhood association and hear directly from constituents about issues affecting our community and how I can best serve CA-19 in Congress.

[Rep. Jimmy Panetta @RepJimmyPanetta]

Congratulations to Paso Robles Fire Chief Jonathan Stornetta on his upcoming retirement! After 35 years of dedicated service in fire and emergency services, including more than 25 years serving Paso Robles, Chief Stornetta leaves a lasting legacy of leadership and commitment to public safety.

The research tax credit was designed to maintain America’s competitive technological edge, not subsidize routine data center construction. That’s why I led a bipartisan group of lawmakers in raising concerns with this Administration about Meta’s use of this tax credit and calling for stronger safeguards against its misuse.

Great to work with Lisa Holbert, Director at the Cabrillo College Children’s Center & Lab School, on highlighting my recently enacted SEED Act for early childhood educators. The new law will allow pre-K teachers to deduct up to $350 in out-of-pocket classroom expenses from their federal income taxes beginning with the 2026 tax year. Proud to play my part in providing such a tax deduction and recognizing our teachers.

[Rep. Jimmy Panetta @RepJimmyPanetta]

Great to see the construction at the new facility for the Teen Kitchen Project and learn more about the work it will continue to do preparing and delivering medically tailored, nourishing meals to our community members.

Applications for a service academy nomination are due October 23! It’s always an honor to nominate outstanding high school seniors and recent graduates from CA-19 to attend our nation’s service academies, where they can prepare for lives of leadership and service to our country.
