Make sure you, your family, and your neighbors are aware of your rights in the event of an encounter with an ICE agent or another immigration enforcement agency.
June is Immigrant Heritage Month!
As the daughter of immigrants, I have seen the resilience and sacrifices my mom made to create a better life for my sister and me in the San Fernando Valley.
We honor all the stories, cultures, and contributions of immigrants who have shaped CA-29 and communities across the country.
I will continue working to protect our immigrants and ensure that every family has the opportunity to achieve the American Dream.
While Americans struggle to afford groceries, rent, and a visit to the doctor's office, Donald Trump is focused on constructing his $400 MILLION ballroom.
@HouseDemocrats are fighting this in court.
I joined @RepRobertGarcia, @RepHuffman, and my colleagues in filing an amicus brief to halt the illegal destruction of the White House East Wing and construction of Trump's ballroom.
Happy Pride Month!
We celebrate the LGBTQI+ community and support everyone’s right to live authentically as themselves.
I will continue working with my @EqualityCaucus colleagues to build a more inclusive future for everyone in CA-29 and across the country.
This week, I kept up the pressure on the Trump Administration.
I joined my congressional colleagues to conduct oversight of the California City ICE Detention Center.
During the tour, detainees shared their stories about the basic human rights that are being withheld from them.
I also held a mental health roundtable with mental health professionals and school administrators to talk about how Trump’s ICE raids are affecting children and their families.

This week, I partnered with @Carecen_LA to host a DACA Workshop at LA Mission College’s Pacoima Site for students.
My office shared immigration resources and guidance on the DACA renewal process.
If your DACA renewal has been delayed or you are unsure of your application status, contact my office at (818)253-3535 to receive assistance.
Huge win for the Valley ☀️ At San Fernando Gardens, HACLA joined @RepLuzRivas and Councilwoman @MRodCD7 to celebrate an $850K grant bringing cool-roof upgrades to hundreds of families, improving comfort and resilience for residents.

$850,000 in federal funding is coming to install new cooling units at San Fernando Gardens in Pacoima!
These cooling units will keep seniors and children safe from dangerous extreme heat in Pacoima – one of the hottest areas in LA County during the summer.
I will continue working with @HACLA1938 and @MRodCD7 to deliver federal resources that protect our community from the effects of climate change.
Happy Armenian Independence Day!
I celebrated with the St. Peter’s Armenian Apostolic Church in Van Nuys and shared resources my office provides.
I will continue working with the Armenian community in CA-29 and across the country to support and represent their needs in Congress.
I proudly secured $850,000 for new energy efficiency upgrades for the units at San Fernando Gardens in Pacoima! 🏡
This investment will help reduce energy costs, improve public health, and make our neighborhoods more resilient in the face of climate change.
Thank you to @HACLA1938 for their partnership in ensuring all Angelenos have a safe home to live in.
I will continue working with HACLA and the residents of San Fernando Gardens to bring more federal funding for our supportive public housing communities.
Yesterday, I joined @RepZoeLofgren, @RepKevinMullin, and @Rep_Whitesides on an unannounced visit to the California City ICE Detention Center.
We heard accounts of rodents and scorpions throughout the facility and limited access to healthcare and contact visits for detainees.
No one should be forced to live in these conditions.
My colleagues and I will continue conducting oversight visits of ICE detention facilities and holding the Trump Administration accountable for its cruel treatment of detainees.
Yesterday, I joined 3 of my congressional colleagues on an unannounced oversight visit to the California City ICE detention facility, where there had previously been reports of abysmal conditions. Congress must continue to fight for transparency from ICE and hold this agency accountable for any violations of the law.
For 75 years, the National Science Foundation has helped maintain America’s leadership in innovation and technology while expanding STEM opportunities across the country.
The Trump Administration terminated all 22 members of the National Science Board, undermining the leadership that has helped guide the future of American scientific research and advancements.
I joined my @sciencedems in condemning Trump’s termination of the Nation Science Board and urge that he reinstate the board immediately.
I visited North Hollywood High School in North Hollywood to recognize the National Science Bowl winning team for taking home fifth place! 🎉
North Hollywood High School has had over 20 years of success in the National Science Bowl.
We are excited to see their continued success in the coming year!
I stand with @SenatorAndyKim.
Senator Kim and my New Jersey colleagues were conducting their oversight duties and standing up for immigrant families.
Just as we saw with @SenAlexPadilla, ICE quickly resorted to violent actions to silence Members of Congress.
Everyone should be outraged at how the Trump Administration is treating anyone who tries to hold them accountable.
I saw chaos inside and outside of the ICE detention center Delaney Hall today. Detainees protesting the lack of due process, the disgusting food and poor treatment while their families and advocates stood outside calling for help. Instead of engaging with me and others about the poor conditions, ICE sent in an armored vehicle and a line of armed agents that only poured gasoline on the fire. Civilians were tackled and restrained, and agents fired pepper balls and spray into the crowd. This is more of the same lawlessness we’ve seen elsewhere around the country. Our country deserves accountability. Our country deserves the humane treatment of every person here. In fact, our Constitution demands this. What I witnessed and experienced today was shameful. Delaney Hall is a failure; it’s this administration’s failure. The only way to make this right for our communities is to shut it down and make sure the failures we’ve seen never happen again.
For Memorial Day, I honored the brave men and women at the American Legion Post 176 in San Fernando who gave their lives for our freedoms.
We continue to honor their courage and service and remain committed to never forgetting their sacrifice.
This Memorial Day, I joined the San Fernando Valley Historical Society at the Pioneer Memorial in Sylmar to honor the fallen servicemembers who sacrificed their lives serving our country.
May we always remember their legacy by continuing to support the needs of veterans, active-duty servicemembers, and their families.
Always great to meet with @CAgovernor!
My @HispanicCaucus colleagues and I share Governor Newsom’s values of protecting California from the Trump Administration's racist and discriminatory policies.
Thank you to Governor Gavin Newsom for joining this week’s CHC business meeting to discuss election security and immigration.
With more than 16 million Latinos calling California home, these conversations matter deeply to the future of our communities, our democracy, and our country.
I voted NO on Republicans’ Don’t Say Trans and forced outing bill.
This bill would break the trust between teachers and students while putting students in physical danger at school because of their identity.
I am working with my @EqualityCaucus colleagues to end Republicans’ cruel attacks on trans students.
Congratulations to North Hollywood High School on winning fifth place out of 65 teams in this year’s National Science Bowl!
Team Rivas was happy to welcome the team to Washington and give them a tour of the U.S. Capitol.
The North Hollywood team proved that some of the best science minds in the country are right here in our community.
We are so proud of you all!
