Hurricanes don’t hit just Democrats or Republicans. They hit Floridians.
As we enter hurricane season, I’m proud to team up with @RepDonaldsPress to share one simple message: preparation saves lives.
I am horrified at the news coming out of Oregon. There are no words to say when children are murdered at their school. It is every parents nightmare and no family should have to experience that pain. These tragedies deserve our prayers and action. We owe it to today’s victims, and every victim from gun violence, to do more.
At least three children and one adult were killed in a shooting at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon, on Thursday, multiple law enforcement sources told CBS News.
The suspect, who was 16 years old, was shot and killed by a bystander, law enforcement sources said. https://t.co/Naq3smf2Ib
I’m relieved that everyone at Donna Klein Jewish Academy is safe after yesterday’s bomb threat. We owe thanks to PBSO and Federation Campus Security for moving fast and getting every student home to their families.
Let’s be clear: there is no cause in the world that’s served by scaring children. If your grievance leads you to a K–12 school, you’re the problem.
Breaking - a bomb threat has been reported at the Betty and Marvin Zale Early Childhood Learning Center in Boca Raton.
No child should have to face this kind of terror at school.
Whoever is responsible should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
Floridians: Hurricane Isaias could hit the Panhandle as soon as tomorrow evening. If you’re in its path, please start getting prepared today while stores are still open and roads are clear.
⚠️Check your evacuation zone.

Three years ago, families in southern Israel woke up on a holiday morning to sirens and gunfire. By nightfall, Hamas terrorists had murdered nearly 1,200 people and dragged 251 hostages into Gaza. It was the deadliest day for the Jewish community since the Holocaust. The pictures of that day still haunt me the same way they haunt so many in our community. For many families here in South Florida, October 7 doesn’t feel like three years ago. It feels like yesterday.
As a proud Jewish American and the grandson of Holocaust survivors, I know remembrance is not enough. It takes the courage to confront antisemitism on the far right and the far left, and to call out anyone who tries to excuse terrorism.
No one should be afraid to walk into a synagogue or send their kids to school because they are Jewish. I will keep standing with our Jewish neighbors, today and every day.
I want to wish a happy World Teachers Day to the incredible educators we have across South Florida.
Our teachers work morning to night to mentor the next generation, and they often do it without enough resources or credit.
To every teacher and school staff member: thank you. You have the most important job in the world, and you deserve a lot more than one day of recognition.
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
In the U.S., 1 in 4 women and 1 in 10 men have experienced physical violence, sexual violence, or stalking by a partner, and many never come forward because they're ashamed or afraid they won't be believed.
If you or someone you love is struggling, you are not alone. Call the National DV Hotline at 1-800-799-7233 or text START to 88788. It's free and confidential, and it's open 24/7.
You deserve to be safe, and help is here.
I’m relieved that every passenger made it home safe tonight. This was a clear act of terrorism by a madman who tried to hijack a plane to kill innocent people and attack the state of Israel. The passengers who stepped in to save the lives of everyone onboard deserve our full praise.
Praying for the injured pilot and wishing him a speedy recovery.
BREAKING: A flight bound for Israel makes an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia after a midair cockpit incident triggers fears of a possible hijacking and prompts Israel to scramble fighter jets.
One passenger tells Fox they believe the co-pilot stabbed the captain, who then fell onto the controls. Other passengers describe hearing screams as the plane suddenly plunged before landing safely in Tabuk.
Officials say the emergency stemmed from an altercation involving the pilots, not a hijacking. Everyone on board is reported safe as authorities investigate exactly what happened inside the cockpit.
@Jeff_Paul reports the latest on the ground in Tel Aviv.
Still unclear is what role the Israeli fighter jets were prepared to play if this really was a hijacking. Full story at the link: https://t.co/ILvKo1QYWr
Chag Sameach to everyone celebrating Sukkot, which begins tonight at sundown. This week families across South Florida will gather in the sukkah to share meals and give thanks for the harvest. Wishing our community a joyful and meaningful holiday.
Yom Kippur begins at sundown tonight. It’s the holiest day of the Jewish calendar, a time for reflection, atonement, and renewal.
To everyone in South Florida and across the country observing: g’mar chatimah tova. May you be sealed for a good year, and may your fast be meaningful and easy.
Middle East: Due to tensions in the Middle East, the security environment remains complex with the potential for unforeseen escalation. Americans currently in the Middle East should exercise heightened vigilance and be aware of potential flight cancellations, airspace closures, and travel disruptions. Iranian-supported Houthis have engaged in hostilities against Saudi Arabia, including civilian airports. This military conflict has the potential to escalate rapidly. Americans outside the Middle East should seriously reconsider travel to and through the region. Those who do travel to or from the region should monitor information about airport and airline operations. U.S. diplomatic facilities, including outside the Middle East, have been targeted. Iran and groups supportive of Iran may target other U.S. interests overseas or at locations associated with the United States and Americans throughout the world, including U.S. businesses and other institutions. More than 80,000 Americans are still out there, in jungles and on ocean floors and in fields half a world away. Every day that they are not here, our nation grieves.
On this National POW/MIA Recognition Day, we’re thinking about them. To the families still waiting and to our neighbors still out there: we will not rest until you are home.
South Florida's Hispanic community shapes who we are every single day, in our neighborhoods, our workplaces, and our public life. This Hispanic Heritage Month, I want to recognize just a few of the leaders making our community stronger.
Congratulations to Maria Hinojosa on receiving @CHCI’s Medallion of Excellence tonight!
For more than three decades, her reporting has given voice to Latino families across this country, including the ones I represent in South Florida. She built Latino USA and Futuro Media into institutions, and she made room for stories no one else was telling.
Congratulations and felicidades, Maria!

For thirty years, Take Stock in Children has helped Florida kids break the cycle of poverty through education.
It was a privilege to meet with their team this week to brainstorm ways to expand their incredible work to students in every corner of our state.
There’s no better investment than Florida’s next generation. When we invest in her kids, our whole state moves forward.
I led a FL Dem Delegation letter urging Speaker Johnson to reinstate the ACA's Enhanced Premium Tax Credit immediately. Over 150K constituents have already lost their healthcare.
Congress should focus on lowering healthcare costs. Instead, the Speaker is sending us home AGAIN.
From public safety to healthcare, education to economic development, these are the people who make South Florida an outstanding place to work and live.
We're proud to celebrate them this Hispanic Heritage Month and every month, and grateful for everything they do for our community.
