Arizona House Democratic Leader. Former public school teacher. Rhodes Scholar & Yale Law JD. Fighting for affordability, healthcare, and against corporate greed
Arizonans deserve a safe, affordable place to call home. But corporate landlords & rich investors are making it impossible for us to buy an affordable home. The Pew Research Center found that corporate investors bought 1 in 3 single-family homes in AZ on the market in 2021.
I couldn’t be more humbled to be endorsed by @GabbyGiffords and @GIFFORDS_org. Taking inspiration from Gabby’s resilience and courage, I will continue to fearlessly take on the gun lobby and work with my colleagues to enact commonsense gun laws that save lives.
Public schools underfunded? Costs going up? Water at risk?
Kevin Hartke and Janet Weninger apparently think Arizona needs more of the same.
LD13 deserves better. Vote Jacob Weinberg and Dr. Racquel "Rockee" Armstrong.
Voters in LD2 have the chance to elect Democratic leaders who know firsthand how cuts to education and healthcare have hurt Arizona families and will fight like hell to fix it. This morning, I joined them to get out the vote! 🗳️
What a great morning in LD2!! Let’s get those ballots in for Rep Simacek, Dr Gallitano, and all of our incredible legislative candidates. Make sure to vote Blue all the way down the ballot 💙
It is a basic principle of American democracy that the government can’t selectively target individuals simply because of their political beliefs or what they say. But that’s exactly what the Trump Administration is doing to Congresswoman Ilhan Omar of Minnesota.
To understand why this is so appalling, it’s important to know the facts. Congresswoman Omar came to this country with her father when she was 12 years old. Five years later, her father became a naturalized citizen. If Ilhan had been 18 at the time, she would have had to apply for citizenship separately. But because she was 17, she became a naturalized citizen automatically.
Congresswoman Omar went on to graduate from college, work as a community organizer, become the first Somali-American legislator elected to public office in the U.S., and win a seat in Congress. There, she has been one of the Trump Administration’s fiercest critics, which has led the president to repeatedly single her out as someone who he believes does not belong in this country.
Now the Administration is actively trying to deport Congresswoman Omar, seemingly based solely on the unsubstantiated theory that she was actually 18 when her father was naturalized, and therefore is not a citizen. Federal agents have raided her home, confiscated personal records, and seized her phone — all to try and uncover a nonexistent smoking gun from 20 years ago that will somehow make their case.
Think about that. The full weight of the federal government is being brought down on a law-abiding elected official because she has dared to criticize the president. And it’s not the first time this has happened. Under President Trump, the Justice Department has repeatedly gone after those he considers his political enemies — from the Attorney General of New York, to the former head of the FBI, to members of the Federal Reserve.
In those cases, the prosecutions either stalled or were dismissed for having no basis in law, and the same is likely to happen in this case. But not before Congresswoman Omar’s life has been turned upside down, her legal bills have piled up, and she’s been forced to spend time fighting unsubstantiated charges instead of serving the people of Minnesota.
The fact that any president, or any administration, is willing to engage in such transparent efforts to intimidate someone should outrage all Americans, regardless of how they feel about Congresswoman Omar’s political views. Because if this becomes the new normal, there’s no reason to believe it will stop with her — or that future presidents, in either party, won’t do the same.
7 days a week at the doors. 🚪☀️
Our campaign is out in LD 27 neighborhoods every day, listening to residents and having conversations about the issues that matter to our community.
Grateful for the volunteers who keep showing up. 💙
NEW @MeidasTouch: Andy Biggs wrote a book arguing that constitutional amendments from the late 19th and early 20th centuries were “crazy leftist ideas.”
That includes the 19th Amendment, which guaranteed women the right to vote #AZGov https://t.co/eO4FHvJCHf
I want to thank the dedicated public servants at the Office of the @AZSecretary who make democracy happen, as well as the first responders who are keeping them safe. This is a sobering development but we will not be intimidated or silenced.
BREAKING Arizona Capitol's Executive Tower evacuated after Secretary of State's office received envelope with white powder that was opened by staff, per @AZSecretary.
I love Arizona with all my heart.
I was born there, I grew up there, and I survived an assassination attempt there. I’m determined to build the safer Arizona we all deserve, and I know that these gun safety champions will always put public safety first and do whatever it takes to prevent senseless gun violence. I am proud to endorse them and urge voters to support them this November. 🌵♥️
BLUE TSUNAMI??? Yes … but only if we all do the work. Million of dollars from out of state are now pouring in to spread lies and take down our candidates. Take nothing for granted. We need to play like we’re behind.
ARIZONA POLL INCOMING
Local pollster @azhighground finds democrats in strong positions heading into the general.
The reason?
GOP voters are not fully home with support in most races hovering in the low seventies. There are major headwinds with unaffiliated voters as well.

“We have a responsibility not only to Arizonans today, but to those who come after us.
Before making decisions that cannot be undone, we should understand not only what Arizona stands to gain, but what are we giving up tomorrow?” — Rep. @BettyVillegasAZ on Arizona’s State Trust land.

🚨 Warren Petersen has spent 13 years going after your health care.
From working families to people with pre-existing conditions, he’s repeatedly fought against protections for the Arizonans who need them most.
Now he’s backing a plan that could strip 342,000 Arizonans of their coverage and put five rural hospitals at risk of closing, all while keeping his own government-sponsored health care.
Watch this video for the facts on Petersen’s years-long attack on your health care ⤵️
🚨 NEW TODAY: POLITICO is the latest national outright highlighting my opponent’s efforts to undermine our elections.
Warren Petersen urged Mike Pence to delay certification of the 2020 election. He’s also turned over Arizona’s voter rolls containing YOUR private information.
Arizonans deserve an Attorney General who protects your right to vote, not one who puts it at risk for partisan politics. I’ll always protect YOUR vote first.
