I am proud to announce that my HB 5650 has officially passed the House!
HB 5650 establishes a straightforward and commonsense requirement: whenever the Attorney General’s Office spends more than $250,000 on a single case, it must report those expenditures to the Legislature. That report would include detailed line item costs, an explanation of why the case is being pursued, and a clear justification for the use of public funds. These safeguards would apply to the current and all future Attorneys General, regardless of party affiliation.
Michigan taxpayers deserve to know how their money is being spent, and HB 5650 provides a responsible framework to make that oversight possible.

On Tuesday, the House Oversight Committee discussed concerns surrounding how public funds are administered and accounted for within Rx Kids.
During the hearing, we raised serious concerns about how much of the allocated state funding is actually reaching intended recipients and supporting the core goals of the program. Additional concerns focused on clear gaps in oversight, including instances where an expecting mother may receive the $1,500 stipend and then terminate the pregnancy while still retaining those taxpayer funds. We also raised concerns about the ability to ensure that these dollars are being used for their intended purpose, rather than on luxury items or purchases such as alcohol and drugs. Simply relying on trust is not enough when there have been repeated concerns and allegations of fraud and misuse associated with this program.
This hearing made it clear that stronger safeguards are needed. We must have clear guidelines, real accountability, and strong verification processes in place to ensure taxpayer dollars are protected and that this program is truly serving the families it was created to help.

June serves as an important reminder to recognize the impact of post-traumatic stress disorder and to support those living with it. PTSD can affect any individual, and it is important that we continue to encourage those who need support to seek it. No one should have to face these challenges alone, and help is always within reach.

This year, the House passed a budget plan that protects taxpayers by reducing state general fund spending by nearly $600 million, avoiding new taxes or fees, and fully funding the essential services people rely on.
Our plan includes major investments to preserve Medicaid access, continue progress on fixing local roads, and increase classroom funding for students. The House's plan also boosts support for local governments and public safety and expands workforce training programs. The budget adds to the state’s rainy‑day fund, ensuring Michigan is prepared for future challenges.
At the end of the day, this is about getting back to common-sense budgeting, cutting the excess funds that bureaucrats have been stashing away in slush funds, and focusing on real priorities. That’s exactly what this budget does.

SECURE MICHIGAN ELECTIONS
We passed @RepWoolford's bill to require voter ID in Michigan because ONLY CITIZENS SHOULD VOTE in U.S elections.
This is common sense.
Today, we remember those who answered the call, wore the uniform, and gave everything for our country. Their courage and sacrifice are woven into the freedoms we cherish every day. May their legacy live on through our actions, our gratitude, and our continued commitment to honoring the values they fought to protect.

Yesterday I had the pleasure of meeting with Jason Schrock and recognizing him during House session for his remarkable leadership as principal of Howell High School!
Principal Schrock’s vision has helped pave the way for innovative programs that strengthen the entire Howell community, including the launch of Howell’s Air Force JROTC program and Michigan’s first HOPE Squad.
His involvement with Agape City Church further reflects his commitment to servant leadership. He leads with integrity and purpose, and his faith is evident in the way he builds relationships, supports students, and fosters a culture of excellence within the school.

I had the honor of attending the Michigan Senate Memorial Day Service yesterday.
Memorial Day is a sacred time for our nation. It is a moment to pause, reflect, and honor the courageous men and women who laid down their lives so the rest of us could live in freedom. Their sacrifice is the foundation on which our liberties stand.
Standing alongside fellow veterans, Gold Star families, and my legislative colleagues, I was reminded of the profound weight of their service and the responsibility we all share to ensure their legacy is never forgotten.
May we strive every day to live in a way that honors their courage, their service, and their memory.

Yesterday, I voted in support of the HELP-UP plan: House Effectively Lowering Property Taxes and Utility Payments.
Under this plan, the state property tax would be eliminated, saving the average homeowner about $900 each year. It also ends the “pop-up tax,” which can trigger sudden spikes in taxes after a home is sold, and repeals the real estate transfer tax that drives up closing costs.
With a mandatory $1 billion statewide rollback included, the total annual savings for the average homeowner would be about $1,400.
The HELP-UP plan is about making Michigan more affordable again and delivering meaningful relief for hardworking people.
