Today, we honor the Americans and Allies who stormed the beaches of Normandy on D-Day in defense of freedom. We are forever grateful for their extraordinary courage and sacrifice, and we remember the heroes who never came home, and their families who carried that loss.
Another year, another NDAA! Lucky to have such great colleagues and staff working together on @HASCDemocrats to make sure our servicemembers, their families, and everyone who supports them get the resources they need.
To my friend @RepMoulton, congrats on your final NDAA markup and thank you for being a great partner to me, this committee, and our country.
.@PeteHegseth is trying to ban our servicemembers from studying at elite higher education institutions like Harvard.
But if Ranger Pete can attend both Princeton AND Harvard, why not let servicemembers today have that same choice too?
If Republicans are interested in dictating the education of our troops, they're better off moving to China or Russia, where that kind of behavior is welcomed.
Rather than debate the amendments being offered during NDAA markup, Republicans - except for the literal chairman of the committee - are either staying silent or leaving the room.
Republicans know this defense budget is way too high. It's indefensible.
Seth Moulton notes how Republicans haven't spoken up in defense of the budget or the battleship.
"That tells you something about this administration's priorities," he says.
"This Republican did," says Armed Services Chair Mike Rogers, the only R to engage in debate on either.
We need to ask ourselves WHY this bloated, excessive defense budget is being proposed.
Because wars cost money, plain and simple.
And this President has unilaterally decided for all of us that the U.S. should be fighting in more places, more often.
Why are we spending more money on war when gas prices are skyrocketing, healthcare is too expensive, and people are struggling to get by?
The defense budget topline should be cut by $150 billion.
Dems are hammering military budget hikes in the opening salvo of NDAA debate.
Rep. Moulton pitches an amendment to cut $150B from the House bill's $1.14T topline.
Comes after RM Smith offered and withdrew two amendments pushing to raise taxes to offset DOD spending increases.
- Prohibiting the Secretary of Defense from denying any covered member from completing an eligible program offered by an eligible institution and revoking @SecWar's February memo ending DoD's relationship with Harvard
- Requiring a report on DOD personnel deployment costs for DHS/ICE/CBP
During today's NDAA markup, Rep. Moulton plans to offer a number of amendments including:
- NDAA topline budget cut of $150 billion
- Requiring a report on the total financial cost of military operations in Iran and on facility infrastructure costs
- Reaffirming restriction of DoD personnel at polling places
We want to congratulate Andover's own, Eric Myung, for being selected to @carnegiehall's prestigious National Youth Orchestra! After a two-week residency in New York, Eric and the NYO-USA will embark on a tour to some of the great musical capitals in Europe. MA-06 is cheering you on!
Donald Trump has shown already during Tulsi Gabbardβs tenure that he will not hesitate to weaponize the DNI position for his own gain.
Now he has installed Bill Pulte, who has never held an intelligence role in his life and who has gone to great lengths in his role overseeing federal mortgage programs to target Trumpβs political opponents by manufacturing fake mortgage fraud allegations.
Trump doesn't care about you or our country, he just cares about who is loyal to him and who will work hardest to advance his false narratives, no matter the cost to our country.
Breaking news: President Trump is appointing Bill Pulte as acting director of national intelligence, tapping a political supporter who heads a federal mortgage regulation agency but has no intelligence experience. https://t.co/zkHY2ouvbM
Summer should be about firing up the grill, not burning through your savings. Donald Trump's policies are only driving up food prices as summer grilling season gets underway though.
Happy Pride Month! Rep. Moulton is proud to stand alongside the LGBTQIA+ community in the continued fight for freedom and dignity for all.
This month is not just a celebration, but a call to action. Everyone deserves the right to live and love openly.
So now Donald Trump is prepared to give Iran a $300 billion investment fund - on top of releasing $25 billion in Iranian frozen assets - just to get back to the status quo before Trump began this war.
This is INSANE.
