🇦🇷 Destructive Supercell in Mendoza: Hail the Size of Oranges
☄️On March 5, 2025, a powerful supercell developed over Argentina’s Mendoza province— a rare but highly dangerous phenomenon capable of producing severe thunderstorms. Atmospheric conditions, including high humidity and strong updrafts, fueled intense convection, leading to the formation of giant hailstones.

‼️ In Luján de Cuyo and several other districts of Mendoza, abnormally large hail fell, in some places exceeding 10 cm (4 inches) in diameter. Such extreme events are linked to the increasing energy of storms, driven by climate change: rising average temperatures enhance evaporation and moisture levels in the atmosphere, creating more extreme conditions for storm development.

⚠️ Witnesses have shared photos and videos of the destruction caused by the storm. Reports indicate damage to cars, rooftops, and agricultural lands across the region.

A devastating structural fire that broke out on Monday in the historic center of Lima, #Peru, in Barrios Altos, remains out of control after more than 40 hours of effort by Peruvian Firefighters and Volunteers. The fire started in a 6-story building that was used as a clandestine warehouse for toys and plastics, highly flammable materials. This building had been closed on 3 occasions by the Metropolitan Municipality of Lima due to its use as a warehouse without a permit. Despite the measures taken, the warehouse continued to operate, which led to this tragedy. The fire has affected at least 7 buildings, including historic homes and villas, leaving dozens of families homeless. The structure where the fire started collapsed due to the intense heat, and other nearby buildings are at risk of collapse. So far, 17 people have been reported affected by smoke inhalation.
