THREAD: Cherise Doyley was in her 12th hour of contractions at the hospital when a tablet was brought to her bedside.
On the screen was a Zoom call with a judge and several lawyers and doctors.
She was in court, a nurse told her. The reason? For failing to agree to a C-section.

In your coverage of what happened in Nebraska (or any case where someone is being criminalized for a pregnancy outcome), here's a few reminders:
This case is horrific. A teenager is going to jail for accessing healthcare to end her pregnancy, and her mother also faces charges.
Self-managed abortion is not illegal in Nebraska, but that doesn't stop prosecutors from stretching laws to criminalize it.
It’s absurd that the national conversation has become a question of when it’s fair to legislate someone’s body.
With voters more furious and pro-choice than ever, the most effective message is also the only appropriate answer: never.

One could argue that being the first and only "minority female governor" in the history of this nation demonstrates the opposite, or are we to believe that there was never a single other qualified woman of color before Haley?
Uses #1619Project as political prop in a video that opens with growing up where railroad tracks (not white people) divided the town by race. Talking about being the child of immigrants without acknowledging that the rights she had in SC were won by Black resistance. Just peak.
Abortion is so easily removed from history. @britishmuseum's curator commentary ignores that silphium was used as an abortifacient. In fact, because it was the best plant at the time and could not be grown elsewhere, it fetched a high price. Probably what drove it to extinction.
In this piece, we try to raise our collective consciousness about who and what is responsible for racial inequities in health.

Would you believe that multiracial citizens of the United States are, in fact, wait for it...Americans? The right-wing outrage campaign against the #1619Project is once again in effect, this time against our six-part #1619hulu docuseries. I see it as free advertisement.
He didn’t have to be a “good guy” to deserve basic human rights. Incarcerated people are still people. Since you were using him as a source for writing stories that you profited from, perhaps you owe his memory a little more respect.
I just found out one of my sources got killed.
I'm sad, but I'm not gonna wax poetic about how he was a good guy. I’m not sure he was.
But he was a great example of how broken the system is. And he did a lot to help expose that even without knowing it. THREAD:
