Lab manager for the Davy Lab @ CarletonU. MSc graduate. Research: reptile conservation and disease ecology. Big fan of #SciComm and being out in the field!
I was on that flight…. Took me 15hrs to get to St. John’s from Ottawa. And now my luggage is missing and @porterairlines refuses to guarantee that it will make it to St. John’s. Staff on the phone were rude and unhelpful. Will never fly Porter again by choice or recommend.
Oct 6th @porterairlines cancels PD2205 in mid air and diverts @AirPassRightsCA passengers to Halifax where they are unceremoniously dumped WITHOUT:
- rebook on next 2 available Porter flights
- hotels or ground transport
- rebook on available AC flights
This is shameful…
Great to talk to @IvanSemeniuk about declining bat populations and how they can be recovered.
We NEED wind energy, and bat-friendly wind-farm operation is absolutely feasible. Huge thanks to the many wind farm operators who are already working hard to achieve this.
#skysharks keeping the team busy, as the bats do their best to shed their tags as quickly as possible. (Makes it extra rewarding each time one is located!)
Also celebrating reaching >300 pathogen-surveillance samples for @jdkotwa & Samira Mubareka! 🥳
Perfect night!
#skyshark 🦇 swarming surveys kicked off briliantly: >240 captures in four hours; four #bat species, and samples collected for virus surveillance, and studies of demography, social behaviour, and regional migration. Could not have been better. ☺️
Busy, wonderful week on the #WetlandsAndReptilesProject, collecting samples for @TylerAmbeau’s thesis and long-term data on population dynamics.
I most ❤️ meeting the same turtles I first met doing surveys for my PhD in 2010.
(And thanks to the turtles for putting up with us.)
Another turtle-y (and beautiful plant) week in the books! Every summer I spend in the field, I appreciate Ontario’s beauty that much more. #WetlandsAndReptiles#PitcherPlant
Biologists have sequenced over 200 genomes of caribou in Ontario, & for the first time ever, can distinguish between Boreal caribou, Eastern Migratory caribou & hybrids. Read the full story about what this means for at-risk caribou populations in Canada: https://t.co/OU6zmeiq93
