Politicians Work For The Shadow Architecture:

Congress keeps the machine alive because Congress IS the machine. Not the operators the gaskets. Replaceable. Interchangeable. Republican or Democrat, the function is identical. Appropriate, borrow, spend, repeat. That's it.

The debt ceiling theater is a valve release they pretend to fight, the ceiling rises, the machine keeps running, and nobody asks why a sovereign government with constitutional authority to coin money borrows its own currency from a private cartel at interest.
