I've gotten to an age in life where I'm no longer impressed by or interested in Twitter gurus and internet Armchair Quarterbacks who have never sacrificed a single hair on their head or had any skin in the game they love to comment on.

If you're trying to fight a dictator with protests, they will either criticise the protests or join them online from a safe geographical distance. If you mount a legal challenge against a dictatorial government, they will tell you that you are wasting your time and you need to be more "rational."

If you are trying to change a deeply broken and calcified society with insurgent journalism, they will tell you that you are "emotional" and that you "let your feelings get in the way." If you're trying to lead a public education campaign, all they have to offer is snark and incessant negativity that nobody asked them for.

These Platos and Aristotles have never demonstrated any ability to actually DO anything. They never lead any social movements. They never take part in politics beyond tweeting and (maybe) voting. They never contribute toward anything that leads to any significant outcome.

They are not visionaries, they are not entrepreneurs, they are not activists, they are not societally significant in any material way. They are Armchair Quarterbacks who have to get up at 7AM and get on Zoom for the daily progress meeting at their comfortable 9-5 job.

Their sole superpower is talk, criticism and endlessly running commentary on the work and efforts of others who actually go out into the field and make things happen - things that they will comment on after the Zoom meeting ends and they open Twitter. Beyond the talk? Absolutely nothing. Hot air with an internet following.

Over these past 3 years, I have gone through too much and I have seen too many people go through too much to let the opinions of social media Dalai Lamas be a factor in any serious conversations anymore.

You want to be taken seriously? Go out and DO something. Get some skin in the game. Show that there is more to you than just clever tweets.
