I don't normally post personal things on this account, but I wanted to mention that I swam the Tiber over the weekend, and the water was more than fine. :)
@emzanotti We don't allow them for our family, but the other day we went out to eat, and the restaurant was playing a feed of them on a massive screen. It was hypnotic and annoying. We had to move our seats around just to break the toddler trance.
For America's 250th birthday can we PLEASE bring back the original American Girl books? It is a national tragedy that these treasures are OUT OF PRINT. Our intangible cultural heritage, y'all.
@ryanh_2327@LeahLibresco@jdflynn Michigan Tech also does an ice chapel annually. As a freshman there, husband attended the first Ice Mass, which was also the first Mass he ever attended, period.
He became Catholic the next year. Without the ice chapel, he may not have. It was a low-threat intro to the faith.
@LadyNimby@berrysweetmum I live somewhere warmer with little snow now, and, yes, I genuinely miss it. When it's cold and snowy in Michigan, you can put on your coat and snowshoes or skis and go have fun. When it's cold-ish and rainy here, you're just trapped. It's terrible. 😭
@berrysweetmum "Like" doesn't seem the right choice here, but I just wanted you to know that I'm sorry things are hard. We've really been going through it lately, too, and it's so challenging to give yourself grace when you feel so undeserving of it. I'll pray for you.
@AngulusTerrarum@lisavsworld My dad was born in late 1951 and could remember when his family got indoor plumbing. If I recall correctly, a community not far from his may not have had electricity at all before then.
There were towns nearby, as well, that had all the modern bells and whistles, but still.
@Utterly_Jean@berrysweetmum Yeah. We would love to be closer to my mom or my in-laws, but mathematician jobs (especially given the state of academic hiring today) don't grow on trees.
@CanticleMedia I think the reunion show is a lost art that ought to be favored over the reboot option. Get the gang back together. Do one special episode. Don't pretend that everything is the same.
@thewaronbeauty As an archivist, I saw this shift over the last few years. Undergrads started needing me (or their professors, if present) to read cursive to them.
